Cinefantastique Spotlight Podcast: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Posted: 08/08/11 11:09 AM ET

2011-08-08-RB168_210_v0650033_rgb_400.jpgStartling the studios, startling the critics, and startling its delighted audiences, Rise of the Planet of the Apes has arrived to prove that a reboot -- in the hands of a skilled director and inspired writers, actors and effects artists -- does not necessarily need to serve as Exhibit One in the case for the film industry's creative bankruptcy. Join theofantastique.com's John W. Morehead and Cinefantastique Online's Lawrence French and Dan Persons as they explore how the latest retooling of a moribund franchise has become the most bracing film of the summer, discuss some emotional nuances director Rupert Wyatt uses to bring depth to the fantasy, celebrate Andy Serkis' work as our new simian overlord, and sift over some notable glitches in the scenario.

Also: Some thoughts on the revelation that Steven Sodherbergh is directing second unit sequences for The Hunger Games; and what's coming to theaters and home video.

What a great flick it was! It's called SCI/FI FANTASY eagle11. Why so serious? Enjoy life and it's little getaway's from reality :) Clearly adults understand that: No apes can't really do this but again it a sci fi fantasy movie so go watch and enjoy and try not to be so serious >:)

Watch as Thomas Gillespie, Associate Professor of Public Health and Biodiversity Conservation at Emory University, discusses the real characteristics of this misunderstood species. Chimps have wars, they do it to gain land and females. Any babies they find get eaten. They are like us in many ways obviously.
