Some very unfair criticism of George W. when he at last attempted to answer a question from Helen Thomas. I mean, he got mixed up between Afghanistan and Iraq and the Taliban and Al Quaeda and Hussein. Easy to do. You can imagine yourself, picked up by the cops. Few too many drinks. They ask you what you are doing with someone else's car. You give them an answer. Then later on some more cops ask, and you can't remember what you said, so you you give them a different answer. Then it's your lawyer, and the prosecutor, and the judge. You were so spaced out you can't remember what you said to who, so every answer is different. Doesn't matter anyway, none of them are true, so who can be expected to keep track of all that?

So we invaded Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban. These are the same Taliban who the CIA funded and supplied to put in power. Why? Because they were fighting the Russians. The Russians invaded Afghanistan to stop the Taliban taking power. Many countries, led by America, boycotted the Moscow Olympics in protest. These were the same countries that supported an invasion led by America (none of the invading countries, unlike Russia, shared a border with Afghanistan). Complicated eh? And then there is Iraq. Invaded them to stop the Al Queada who weren't there because Hussein suppressed fundamentalism. America had previously funded and supplied Hussein to fight Iran because there was a fundamentalist government there. There was a fundamentalist government there because America had overthrown the most recent elected government in Iran and installed a repressive dictator. The people finally launched a successful revolt and the best organised group to take power were the fundamentalist clerics. These are the ones now calling the tune in Iraq which America invaded because of fundamentalists in Afghanistan. Who could possibly remember all that except people who live in the countries being invaded? Even Nixon and Kissinger had trouble keeping track of their machinations in south east Asia and South America, and they were much smarter than George. C'mon, give the guy a break. Like to see you keeping track. All very well having the left hand knowing what the right hand is doing, but George and his friends have their hands in so many pies now that no one could possibly know which was which. But don't worry, the next president will take care of all that.
