Anybody watch "Step It Up And Dance" last night? HOT STUFF!
Anyway gang, I just read something remarkable. "Remarkable" as in, "It is remarkable that my eyeballs are still in my head after reading that."
In an interview with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader today, Hillary Clinton brought up Bobby Kennedy's June, 1968 assassination as an argument against her dropping out of the democratic primary.
"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
She has a point: June is a great month for political assassinations.
Why drop out of the race before all the assassins have had their say?
After all, we know Barack Obama has received multiple death threats-- because he is black, of course, and because some of our fellow citizens think he's a secret Muslim terrorist who is going to take the oath of office on the Koran and make us all pray to Mecca five times a day with that screechy music coming over the loudspeakers(?) and then he'll fly Air Force One into the White House(?).
And the truth is, Obama has consistently failed to win over those voters who want to see him murdered.
Actually, you know what? Screw making silly jokes about this. THIS IS INSANE. When I first read that Hillary quote, I lost my breath. I'm not naive: Everyone has thought about the possibility of Obama getting assassinated. For the vast majority of us, it is a dreadful, terrifying scenario. . . but it is one that has crossed our minds.
THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT IS APPROPRIATE TO BASE A RIVAL CAMPAIGN STRATEGY ON IT.
Dear God.

You know, not to excuse the assaination comment... at the very least, it's incredibly tactless. But I noticed something interesting in my reaction. When I first read the quote, I was pretty shocked. It was so nakedly stupid. But then I watched the clip and I had a totally different reaction. For some reason, listening to her say it, didn't make it so bad. It was clear she wasn't thinking about Obama. If she had said that to me without all the noise, I would never have thought anything of it. Did anyone else have this reaction? (different reactions when reading verses seeing/listening to her directly)
Hillary pointed out the obvious that nobody can tell what the future holds from June to the convention. The starkest and saddest event in June was poor Bobby.(the analogy actually indicates that she, the one behind as was Bobby, would be the one to die) Now everyone is jumping all over her for stating the obvious. They imply she wants Obama dead. What a heap of BULL.If she said read the history of campaigns from June till September for yourself and draw your own conclusion there would be uproar for suggesting something. If she said there was no reason to carry on there would be uproar for carrying on.No matter what she says the press are ready to jump all over her.For God sake would you guys ever grow up.
She is beneath contempt.
Hopefully, this will end, once and for all, the awful notion (pushed by Bill) that she should be his running mate.
She should be thrown out of this race, the democratic party and this country. She's an embarrassment to the United States.
Yikes! It's better to keep your answers short. All she has to say is "I'll stop campaigning when I'm ready to stop, which is not now. Next question".
Just the same, I love Hillary. If I was a polygamist, I'd make Hillary my second wife!
Didn't anybody tell you that it's better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and erase all doubt. Do you know something we don't Hillary?
Everyone keeps saying they want to give you the benefit of the doubt because the alternative is unthinkable. I am not interested in giving you any benefit of the doubt. This is because you have been running around quoting Karl Rove lately. I know and you know exactly what is going on.
Everything you have so valiantly fought for just went up in smoke and you have no one to blame but yourself. From this day forward everyone will remember that on Friday, May 23rd, 2008 was the day Hillary Clinton assassinated herself.
Superdelagates, this is your cue.
Hillary, Get. Out. Now. Do you care about the country, the Party, the causes you have supposedly dedicated your life to? You played with race baiting and now you have crossed the last line.
Hillary has devoted her life to one cause- Hillary.
