Today, Google announced it's investing $10 million in eSolar, a company that builds solar thermal power plants, as part of its RE<C project. Here's what eSolar has to say about itself (PDF):

To serve the renewable electricity needs of utility-scale energy providers, eSolar has developed a market disrupting solar thermal power plant technology. Generation can be scaled from 25 MW to over 500 MW at energy prices competitive with traditional fossil fuels.

David Sassoon has more.

When talking of the costs of solar or wind i is important to add the costs of not going solar or wind to the costs of fossil fuels and nuclear. Then it is apparent that any price is a good price for solar and wind energy. Arizona has enough sun to power the whole of the US and so it must be asked why the Bush presidency has spent a trillion on a war for oil. Oil is so out of date. Also it is wasted running cars when it is needed for so many other things such as pharmaceuticals and fertilizers.
