I'm Boycotting Macy's; And You Should Too

Given Macy's continued alignment with Donald Trump and promotion of his Chinese made clothing line, it is now clear that the department store giant is a two faced corporate fraud, driven primarily by greed and profit margins. It is time for all of us to "Take Action."

As I explained on my most recent radio show (2nd hour, 30 minutes in on the free podcast), I am joining the boycott of Macy's, and I'm calling on all Americans to do the same.

Macy's operates more than 800 department stores. It even claims to be socially responsible, declaring front and center on all corporate promotional materials that the company believes "actions speak louder than words when it comes to helping tackle some of the toughest problems facing us today."

Really?

One of the toughest problems facing the U.S. economy is the continued outsourcing of American manufacturing jobs. Yet, Macy's continues to promote and sell the Donald Trump clothing line. That entire line is made overseas, further eroding the U.S. textile industry.

Another problem in America is the coarsening of our culture. There again, Donald Trump is playing a despicable and embarrassing role. In just the past year, Trump has repeatedly denied climate change; verbally attacked women he disagrees with by calling them "ugly" and/or "fat," used racially charged language in claiming (without facts) President Obama was not born in the U.S., called for a "revolution" to overturn the recent election results, and etc. and etc.

And yet, Macy's continues to use Trump in advertisements and feature him at company events, despite a petition urging them to dump Trump signed by over 650,000 citizens. Recently, Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren even sent Trump a letter saying how excited Macy's was to be working with Trump and promising to expand the Trump brand even further.

Let me be clear I love Macy's. And, I believe most of the 171,000 employees who work at the company are decent, honorable people who are probably as disgusted by Macy' association with Trump as many of us.

However, the executives at Macy's need to be reminded that American consumers have had enough. American manufacturing jobs matter. Furthermore, none of us can afford to keep blindly supporting reckless corporate behavior and the shallow promotion of celebrities to sell products.

It is time for all of us to use our wallets and pocketbooks to send a clear and unmistakable message to Macy's. You can have us, your most loyal customers -- or you can have Donald Trump. But Macy's, you can no longer have both.
