Recently I was looking through the backlog of event images we've got piling up here and found photos from one of my favorite 2010 projects: The Huffington Post's Game Changers Celebration. Kicked off last year with great fanfare, this honor was bestowed on "100 innovators, mavericks, visionaries, and leaders who are changing the way we look at the world and the way we live in it," Arianna Huffington cited in her writing. It is exciting because it will be a yearly program to look forward to. So . . . as I reminisce on last October's event, I can't help but think about who will be on the list this year; whether there will be any overlap and how a year later, the world is a different place in many ways. Now same sex couples can get married in New York State. Will Governor Cuomo be on the list of Political Game Changers?
The event honored the 100 innovators in 12 categories ranging from the world of style to the universe of politics, from the green space to education. Our event was filled with admirable folks -- people like Mayor Bloomberg, Anderson Cooper, Tom Colicchio, Sean Penn, Paulina Porizkova, and Betheny Frankel to name a few of the hundreds in attendance. We created an environment for the group, inspired by Dan Flavin where a black void was filled with neon flash. Welded steel sculptures represented each of the award categories while projections of ever changing names and other imagery punctuated the space on angled walls and on an entry vignette where 100 silhouettes were grouped to create the perfect "class photo." As you toured the space at Skylight Soho, surprises were revealed at every turn -- not only within our visuals, but WHO you might run into.
As the ultimate Game Changer, I can't wait to see what Arianna and her band of innovators come up with this year. You guys always inspire us to be the best artists we can be. Thank you for that.
