I was going to do a playlist for Todd Akin today, but I'm trying to waste less time on legitimate idiots. So instead, here's somethingdifferent.

I was going to do a playlist for Todd Akin today, but I'm trying to waste less time on legitimate idiots. So instead, here's something completely different.

"Everybody can be great," Dr. Martin Luther King once pointed out, "because anybody can serve." Tonight at 9 p.m. VH1 broadcasts this year's Do Something Awards, a show that I feel very proud and honored to work on. It honors service by some young people you should know about, as well as some of the biggest stars in the world who you already know about.DoSomething.org achieves a remarkably meaningful mission to encourage young people to create their own vision for making a difference in their community and provides them with the resources and support needed.

All service starts somewhere, so why not start by tuning in with your family for tonight's very funny and entertaining show that's hosted by New Girl stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Lamorne Morris? This year's Do Something Awards features appearances by Will Ferrell, Hope Solo, Will.i.am, Ben Affleck, Lea Michele, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Joel McHale, Nick Cannon, Sarah Silverman, John Cho, Simon Helberg, Ashley Green, Sophia Bush and Bryan Cranston who was breaking good for the night, among others. There are musical performances by Flo Rida and the hot new band Fun. -- so for once fun is guaranteed for all. And if you love fun, please don't miss our big open in which the world dominance of One Direction is finally challenged in a big way by the hottest new Do Nothing boy band anywhere -- Zero Direction.

Here then is my playlist of songs to get you in the mood for the VH1 Do Something Awards and a lifetime of public service. As always, please help this effort by adding your own songs to the playlist below. And while you're at it, why not follow @dosomething on Twitter, and help get #DSAwards trending tonight. After all, our world needs all the positive trends it can get.
