Yes, America, it's true: I have decided to forgive Tiger Woods.
At least rhetorically speaking, America wonders aloud: Why, David?
Well, after months of non-stop coverage, it struck me that Tiger Woods did not actually cheat on me, specifically. So let Tiger's lovely wife forgive him or not -- as she sees fit and on her own schedule. Yet as a fan of truly great golf, I want to feel free to root for the guy when he finally tees off at the Masters. Frankly, it's kind of hard to cheer for a man if you're still all caught up in condemning him straight to hell. Also as a father myself, the fact that Tiger seemed pained at missing his son's first birthday suggested to me that perhaps the man really has a heart, along with his other organs.
So Tiger, if you can accept the fact that this married straight guy who doesn't know you at all will never sleep with you because of your bad behavior and his heterosexuality, then I hereby offer my personal sweet forgiveness and my long distance support on your road to recovery -- and hopefully, a few more major victories, both spiritual and otherwise.
