Super Soul Sunday: How To Find Your Inner Harmony

Posted: 04/27/2012 10:00 pm

When you're feeling troubled or lost, or simply confused about life, inner harmony is held out as a goal--a beautiful but perhaps mythical goal. How can troubled thoughts and unhappy feelings be turned into inner peace? They can't. The secret of inner harmony is that it already exists. You don't have to work for it. There is no great struggle of the soul lying in your future. Instead, inner peace is uncovered, like blowing dust off a mirror or letting the clouds pass away from the sun.

This must be true because "the light" is consciousness itself, which is clear and blissful by its own nature. So whatever blocks the light must be temporary and outside of who we really are. The path to inner harmony is natural and simple, in that it consists of asking "Who am I?" and not giving up until you find an answer that puts you at peace, happy with who you are, and happy with the reflection that the outer world gives you.

I have met many troubled people who want inner harmony. They come with heartbreaking stories of abuse, setbacks, frustration, and disappointment. There are a million ways to be in a state that has no harmony. But the very fact that each of us wants to go toward happiness and away from suffering is a key ingredient. Have a vision of harmony, and if you are sincere and willing, your life will start to mirror that vision. Have an image of the opposite - an unfair existence overwhelmed with obstacles - and your life will mirror that vision. This isn't meant as a cruel observation. I am only saying that consciousness is powerful and in the end inescapable. You can't escape yourself. The good news is that the true self waiting for you knows only inner harmony. Ask "Who am I?" and the true self will show you.

It's the Pagan vs. the Puritan. The Pagans lived in the moment, and assumed that happiness was simply here for the taking. The Puritans believed that things worth having involved suffering to obtain them. I think it's time more and more of us shed our inner Puritan and go a bit Pagan. These sorts of conversations always put me in mind of the great Mandela quote, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and beautiful? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God." Have a great day, folks.

Hey Christopher... great post my friend. Just wish to clarify that the "Who am I to be brilliant..." quote is actually from Marianne Williamson. Mandela just happened to use it...

Peace

Chris, there is a process people's soul has to go through, what we might call soul cleansing, or spiritual birth; first the unclean takes over then comes the downside....everyone has a downcycle, we do not know the day or hour, Deepak seems to think we are somehow in control of that, which we are not, it is nice that the "older" folks that have gone through the dark night of the soul and come out on the other side have matured into wisdom, they can benefit from further enlightenment, its the "younger" folks that are still suffering and struggling with evil desires that may desire peace, peace and there is no peace till the process takes its course

The harder you try, the further away it is. The noise of the world both literal and metaphorical continually can interfere. I moved to Montana last year. I hiked into the mountains and after about 30 minutes something happened. Something was different. It took me a couple of minutes to "hear" the exquisite silence. The mind settled in a way it had not in years. To think that simple silence can be such an alien thing in ones life. It can be like a reset button.

"There are no contradictions, only mindsets incapable of encompassing the whole."

This is so true "Have a vision of harmony, and if you are sincere and willing, your life will start to irror that vision." The key words are "Sincere" and "Willing" This has been an eye opener, thank you

So insightful:
"Have a vision of harmony, and if you are sincere and willing, your life will start to mirror that vision. Have an image of the opposite - an unfair existence overwhelmed with obstacles - and your life will mirror that vision."

Certainly thinking positive about one's situation and oneself is critical. Thinking so propels one to take the positive action necessary to affect change. Meditation and exercise help immensely in this process.

This article was just what I needed at this time in my life. Although I feel as if I have been positive as I overcome obstacles, I now see that my thoughts have produced even more obstacles. My life is 100% a reflection of my thoughts. Funny, as a motivator of people it's sometimes hard for me to "speak to my own situation" in a positive manner. Thank you for this gift!
