I'm not sure I'm getting this either. I'm thinking Deepak is rather pinned down by language in attempting to define communication, and that Jean Houston has a similar understanding to his on the subject.

Am I understanding this at all... I think that she is saying that believers are stuck without an ability to see any other way. If that is so... I disagree. I am a Christian, yet I believe that God is more than just for Christians. Many faiths have a 'God' and in that respect I feel like everyone that believes in any 'God' do have a tie to each other. A Christian and a Jew both believe in a 'God'. It's the details that we don't agree on. I think that 'God' will accept even the non-believers when their time comes, if they choose to follow at that point. It will come down to an individuals choice once again, just as it is here on earth. JMO

This was too short of a clip. Practitioners working within a specific point of reference (what you might call a profession of faith) at times can be so immersed in their path that they lose sight of the diverse world around them. Working within a specific point of reference allows one to look at the world from a vantage point. A particular faith is nothing more than the specificity of a path whose contents are universal (i.e. in common to all walks of life). However some of us forget this substituting understanding with the intricacies of a specific practice.
It is important to have a darshan (a point of addressing the world). But one is then confronted with the challenge of not being blindsided by its demands.
Keep in mind however that this point of reference, this darshan does not have to be a particular religion such as Judaism or Christianity neither must it entail beliefs or opinions.
The Divine avails itself to everyone. But who among us is willing to open up to God?

''' But who among us is willing to open up to God?'''---------- very few may be like you say or try to mean may be. It is a dichotomy --- believing in several gods does not solve all the problems in a very long period of time and believing in some god also does not solve problems in over a long period of time and having no believe in god at all for a very very long time has also not solve all our problems --- someone should open upto God and see why nothing works and but all make money in preaching various doctrines for salvation and peace. Reality and reference is why faced in one direction that is the no god direction but several gods direction ---- if one god cannot solve the problems then how several gods can? As they say too many cooks spoil the broth. from conscious living experiene. Looks someone has to open to God but may not be you as you write.
