Ben Roethlisberger Continues to Benefit from Race and Celebrity

Media coverage of the incident has been hypocritical, particularly from a racial standpoint. Say as you wish, but if Roethlisberger were African-American he'd be covered with a higher level of persistence and scrutiny.

According to reports from ESPN, Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won't have to submit DNA samples to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Why?

I don't know. No one is talking. No reason specific reason was issued why the DNA was no longer needed. I suspect the authorities felt it was no longer needed to conclude the investigation?

Please.

I think we all know at least one of the reasons. It's the same reason why Tiger Woods first mistress Rachel Uchitel didn't hold her scheduled press conference.

She got paid.

Big Ben has been in seclusion since the March 5th incident. Commissioner Roger Goodell said he wants a meeting with Roethlisberger because the sexual assault charges are "serious."

You think?

Just wondering why it took Goodell so long to publicly speak out about the situation. When African-American athletes like Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress and Donte Stallworth get into varying levels of legal trouble Goodell had no problems in having sit downs with them.

Why hasn't that meeting taken place with Roethlisberger already?

Pittsburgh Steeler coach Mike Tomlin says he and Big Ben talk daily. Meanwhile Roethlisberger's attorney Ed Garland has maintained his client hasn't committed a crime.

Here's the deal. Roethlisberger seems to be getting preferential treatment because he's a white quarterback in the NFL who has two Super Bowl rings and plays for one of the glamour franchises in the league.

In 2003 Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant played for a storied franchise. He, like Roethlisberger, was accused of raping and assaulting a woman in Colorado. Before Bryant was charged the media had already convicted him. It was a absolute media frenzy.

Again, this was before Bryant was charged.

This is Roethlisbeger's second such case in a two-year span. Why hasn't the media covered Roethlisberger the way it crucified Bryant?

The white male dominated media doesn't cover the marquee white athlete with the same level of intensity as compared to the African-American athlete.

The media coverage of this situation has been hypocritical, particularly from a racial standpoint. Say as you wish, but if Roethlisberger were African-American he'd be covered with a higher level of persistence and scrutinized more in the media.

This whole situation has been shady from the jump. The lack of persistent media coverage, Roethlisberger not submitting DNA and Goodell not speaking out on this issue until now leads me to believe a deal has been struck.

The facts are Garland has hired his on investigation team. Roethlisberger hasn't been charged, and now he isn't being asked to submit DNA.

Slice the deck as you wish, if Roethlisberger were African-American there would be no independent investigation, DNA would have to be submitted and a meeting with Goodell would have already taken place.

Once the dust finally settles in this matter I think Big Ben will avoid facing the music and not be charged.

It will be one sexual assault down, and one more to go.

They say money can't buy you love. But apparently money, with the right complexion may help you to avert serving time in jail, especially if you are a white quarterback in the NFL.
