Limbaugh: "We're Taking Names"

Rush Limbaugh, the unquestioned leader of the otherwise voiceless Republican Party, today had a rant today that was even more virulent and verbally violent than usual. Worse than his fervent desire that Obama fail and nuttier than his claim that our nation is now run by socialists who hate America.

Has it come to this? Rush Limbaugh spent the last eight long years complaining that the Democrats had only one purpose and one motivation -- destroying George W Bush because of the deep-rooted hatred for him. How did Rush forget so quickly and adopt so effortlessly the approach he so strongly rejected? And all this less than one month into a new president's term.

Here's what he said in his monologue on Wednesday (verbatim and fully in context but without the benefit of volume and vitriol that an audio tape would provide):

We're taking names. There's gonna be payback and it's gonna be hell.

It's gonna be a bigger more powerful government and when we take control again. We're gonna use it against them [the Democrats and the left] in ways they can't even imagine.

We're gonna come after your favorite constituents.
We're gonna nationalize your unions.
When companies lose money the people who get canned are union workers.

We're going to use the Justice Department ... we're going to sic the Justice Department and US attorneys on people, just as [the left] have been doing to the right and Republican Party for 50 years.
We're gonna turn the power of government against the left ...
because the day has passed when he can be passive about what they are doing.
If they are going to bastardize the American system ... we will build a massive army of patriots.

You have even perverted them [the American people]
You have created that segment of the American people that has no faith in this country.

Before these people on the left get through [finished], there's gonna be so much anger.
These people ... are trying to destroy America.

The Republicans surely are in good hands.

I did not mean that to be a factual statement.

Can someone at the Huffingtonpost contact some Republican officials and get them to let us know what they think about this kind of dangerous talk?
02:54 PM on 02/12/2009
I read your take on Rush with interest, however, I do think that Rush is right on many points. I think that this big brother government that Obama is forming very well could be turned around on the democrats. I am not in favor of the government telling me what kind of car to drive, or how warm to heat my home, or taking my money to spread to those that don't work.

If the economy completely melts down (a very real possibility), everything will be even worse then you state.

When then, is it time for a government to step in?

To all of you who are feeling scared or uneasy about this right wing rhetoric, please grab yourself a copy of Letter of warning to a Young Patriot by Naomi Wolf. This book will spell out for you the right wing agenda in it's zealous effort to bring this country down. They do this in the spirit of patriotism while all the while, they are the ones with fascist ideas they truly want to establish in this country. Take action yourselves and learn how you can expose this hypocritical rhetoric. I am doing my part to get this message out and I hope others will do the same.

Unless Republicans stop taking orfers from Limbaugh and his kind, the closest they will come to the White House is an Obama cocktail party. Crist, Pawlenty, Jindal, Snow, The Governator....they are the ones that have a shot at breathing life into the Republicans.

How does Limbaugh or anyone else get away with saying this kind of stuff?
Or openly organizing call ins to senators or congressmen nationwide that are fake and meant to misrepresent?
He got away with enough during the election, he should be investigated like Coulter is, enough of this junk!

President Barack Obama has taken the reins of office. He has learned from history that Lincoln and Roosevelt were right. The President must show the American people that he is in control and willing to admit when he makes a wrong decision. The Republicans have no idea of what they will ]face in the future. Obama will not be made a fool of and neither will he have blind trust when dealing with some of the insincere overtures from the Republican side of the aisle. And not let the Democrats ignore his sense of purpose. He wants input from all put not a knife in his back.

Limbaugh should be taken seriously... but none of us having any business being scared or frightened. Remember last year's black voters overwhelmingly supporting Hillary .. many because they were afraid of what the election of the first black President would unleash. Many of the GOP leadership couldn't have cooperated with Obama even if they wanted to and there was always going to be a group of this militant group of white christian fundamentalist conservatives that was going to at least try to take just this sort of tac against Obama no matter what. So they DID try.. they HAVE got their hooks into the political discourse and are shaping opinion.. just as they have for nearly 40 years when the post Nixon conservatives built their movement. They only lost this election. They still have 3000 Limbaugh imitators on airwaves coast to coast.. they have thousands of churches based around white supremacy and anti-government pushback. They have well funded think tanks AEI, heritage, bob jones, regent university backed by the personal wealth of moguls fully committed to their POV.

The election of Barack Obama provides us with opportunity and that is all. If we don't do the work that has now been laid out for us then we will watch that moment of victory taken down piece by piece by these militant taliban.

That's what my problem is with these numbskulls, they spend too much time telling me whats wrong with someone else and not enough of what they can do for me. McCain's whole campaign was about Obama and we never really heard Obama talk too much about McCain. Sarah Palin had Obama in her every dream she was so obsessed with him. The Repubs need to have a meeting and not discuss anyone who is not in their party and come up with clever ways that can get back on track and gain some sort of creditability.

I wouldn't treat Limbaugh's words lightly. There are elections in 2010 and the Democrats have to remember this. We, the rest of the world, can't afford to have the Republicans take over the Senate and House of Reps, This man is either certifiable or very serious in his intent. There is something turgid going on in America. People should be vigilant.

Limbaugh seems to have had the pants scared off of him by Obama's press conference and recent public appearances. Obama makes sense, connects with people instead of walling himself off, and comes across as understanding and dealing with the real problems presented. Limbaugh is terrified that a single dittohead may open his/her eyes to see.

This level of paranoia is dangerous, though.

All joking aside, that rant was scary. Limbaugh is becoming frightening.

Not because he's a person of any real strength, though I don't doubt his ability to inspire a great deal of bad feelings and mischief. It's just that he almost sounded like he should be wearing a little black mustache with his right arm raised.

He's got an idea of nationalism that isn't patriotic. It's fanatascism and dictatorial. And he identifies groups and hollers "they are to blame!". And it's dangerous. Innocent people get hurt in an environment like that.

I think Limbaugh is becoming more than a nuisance. He's becoming a threat. And I would say the GOP should rein him in, but then weren't they recently saying they are going to take their cues from the Taliban? The two voices in each ear - Taliban and Limbaugh. There is a rot in that party and it's taking on the form of dictators and zealots. And I think it's really very frightening.

It really is very scary. What he is talking about is manipulating the DOJ and Law enforcement as a means to control the people.

Yes. It is slarabee. I wrote back to you earlier but the post didn't make it through. No doubt the moderators were right, because I was long winded and in trying to make my point I was having to use references that don't necessarily add to anything but paranoia. But I don't know how you can discuss a man like Rush without using the references that make a person paranoid.

I feel like I'm looking at 1930s Germany. I really do. They said one group of people influenced by one man couldn't turn the world to chaos then. They were wrong.

And I feel like that's what I'm looking at now. Rush isn't some right wing radio host. A member of my congress recently had to grovel for his forgiveness. So......

He's talking about controlling the governors of law, and the enforcement of law. Just as you say. Now add to it that he's one of the key players in creating a propaganda news source to filter all news to their loyalists. There's 3 of the necessary items needed to get a "fascist" off and running. And then read what he says. Big, powerful angry government getting all naysayers under control. And making them sorry. Making them pay.

It scares the bejeebus out of me. And it should.

I'm with you, this is getting very scary. And I take his threats seriously and I think the White House should too.

Rush is a man of interesting contradictions (read: hypocrisy):

"It's gonna be a bigger more powerful government and when we take control again." - Aren't the GOP always railing for SMALLER government??? Remember Palin's "Get out of the way, government....." stance in the VP debate??

"These people ... are trying to destroy America." - Rush conveniently forgets that America is already on fire, after EIGHT years of GOP rule.

"You have created that segment of the American people that has no faith in this country." - THIS coming from the man who wished the PRESIDENT to fail, despite the impact of which being that AMERICA would fail.

"We're going to use the Justice Department ... we're going to sic the Justice Department and US attorneys on people....." - So much for the rule of law. So let's be clear - if the GOP get back into power (SHUDDER), all liberals and / or people who disagree with Rush and the Right will be.....persecuted by the DOJ??? Nice.

Thanks Rush for giving us even MORE reason to make sure you and your thugs DON'T EVER get back into power!!

I've been a lot less frustrated--although not less angry--about Limbaugh and his like since I re-read the Constitution and had an epiphany: they don't believe in it.

They'll say they do. Read it again--you decide. They Constitution explicitly avoids creating a state church; these folks want laws based on nothing but their religious beliefs. The Constitution says: freedom of speech. These folks want those who disagree with them silenced. The Constitution creates three branches of government, with checks and balances, to avoid any one part becoming too powerful. These folks says: the President (well, when it was Bush) can do anything he wants.

The Constitution is, IMHO, the miracle of the modern world. I'm sticking with it, and not tossing it out because Limbaugh and his followers would rather have an oligarchy.

when there is an obvious abuse of power by one faction the government must step in
and regulate, that means no more pillaging of the citizens, and laissez-faire
government just has not worked.

hey Rush, your good thing is about to come to an end.

I think what riles me most is how the repubs keep shouting socialism,
it isn't so and the message is traveling the world as if it's true.

At this point, I do not think anyone with half a grain of sense is taking Rush or the Republicans seriously. THEY ARE ALL NUTS!!!!! But dangerous. GOD please watch over President Obama and our country.

Again.. Limbaugh is not someone or something we should fear. And we'd be utter fools not to talk both Stabenow and Harkin out of even feigned advocacy for the return of the Fairness Doctrine. That only led to a broadcast culture that avoided disussing religion, sex, and politics. And that only returns if we bring it back. Forget about fairness... FAIRNESS is what got us here. Fair is what Obama tried to be in the passage of his bill and he's gotten no farther than three weeks before being up to his neck in Limbaugh, Levin, Hannity and the rest of the attack blondes like Coulter, Ingraham, Crowley, and Fitzpatrick. Obama, if his vision of a post partisan consensusocracy were to come to pass, would be like a Democratic Party stealth submarine... able to float quietly beneath the surface passing government reforms that even John Boehner could love.. the dream that Bill Clinton could only have hoped to realize. Instead.. the sub has risen to the surface.. the right wing has it's planes circling overhead with lights blaring and they are firing down on us. Submerge or fight on the surface before we're ready. Oh well.. such is love and war!!! So let's get it on then.. Olbermann, Maddow, and Ed Schulz are already on their feet.. let's spend the next 3 or 4 years building some think tanks, press orgs, and MORE media personalities on our side. Fairness doctrine my butt.. we've only begun to fight and build!!! Onward!!!
