Zimmerman's Arrest Should Be a Family Affair, Including His Father

Posted: 04/ 4/2012 1:30 pm

George Zimmerman, the man who instantly turned himself into public enemy number one, is an intriguing character for a multitude of reasons.Ā  When I read Zimmerman's story, he reminds me of one of my more "interesting" friends who had a similar story in his life.Ā  This person was also a wannabe police officer who lived with his parents, dropped out of college and took things way too seriously.Ā  There are few men more frightening than wannabe cops who failed the psychological tests.

Another thing about my friend was that his behavior was enabled by his mother. Every time he got into trouble, his mother covered for him, raised money to bail him out and protected him from the consequences of his own decisions.Ā  As a result, he grew into a spoiled stalker and public menace who refused to take responsibility for his choices:Ā  He beat his girlfriends, threatened his enemies, abandoned his kids and harmed other people. He became, honestly, quite a worthless human being.

George Zimmerman may not have been enabled by his mother, but he certainly seems to have been protected by his father Robert. Throughout Zimmerman's life, he has "mysteriously" evaded the consequences of his actions, likely due to the influence of his dad -- cops aren't always quick to arrest the child of a judge.Ā  He even faced charges relating to the assault a police officer, which would have likely resulted in a felony if you or I were in the same situation.

George's father has continued to protect his son in a multitude of ways, starting with allowing him to live at home rent free.Ā  After George killed Trayvon, his father immediately wrote a letter to the Orlando Sentinel defending his son.Ā  Robert has appeared on national television, making up Clint Eastwood stories that present Trayvon as an enraged killer who simply had to be shot.Ā  Robert Zimmerman is the "Helicopter Parent" on steroids, and likely the reason that his son thought he was above the law.

When George Zimmerman goes down, it should be a family affair.Ā  The justice department should investigate Robert Zimmerman's role in helping his son evade punishment and also investigate prior incidents in which Robert Zimmerman chose to obstruct justice.Ā  Ā Any police officials who chose to assist Mr. Zimmerman in his efforts to help his son shirk responsibility for his actions should also be punished.Ā  This father-son partnership in irresponsibility has harmed the local community, put others in danger and should be put to an immediate end.

George Zimmerman is a modern day Frankenstein, created by his father.Ā  Many of us create George Zimmermans in our own families by refusing to hold our children accountable for their choices.Ā  So, perhaps we can learn a valuable lesson from the mistakes of Robert Zimmerman:Ā  Raising your child to be an anti-social menace to society can harm other people and ultimately bring you down.

Robert Zimmerman was a magistrate in the judicial system in, Virginia. Not a judge, yet he still may have wielded power. Regardless, Dr. Watkins, I trust that the judicial system has and will perform for the Martin case. Investigating the past suggests that the system is not working and is simply a waste of the tax-payers dollars. Nothing would guaranty that this boy's life would be saved, and dredging up additional issues perpetuates the racism tone, already well established by the media.

I agree with the father going down with he son. And the chief and the police captain and all those involved in the coverup should all be prosecuted.

Another nonsensical article. If we are going to pass ourselves as professionals, could we at least stop spreading misinformation? George Zimmerman's father is not a JUDGE. George Zimmerman's father has no control over what happens in Sanford.

I just can't wait for all the libel and slander lawsuits that will come from this whole mess.

False, he is a retired MAGISTRATE (not judge), from VIRGINIA (not Florida), and has not been a magistrate since 2006.

You really should try to do some research instead of just trying to pass on hear-say as fact.

The reason no charges where pressed on Martin is that there are no charges to press. From all gathered evidence it is no more than a justified homicide. You can argue that until the cows come home but contrary to Al Sharptons belief you can't say "Hey according to our investigation we have no legal right to arrest you. However we will any way to avoid civil disobedience.

This was murder and Zimmerman has been protected by the corrupt system.

From a totally realistic point of view I see the Zimmerman clan for what it is exactly as portrayed by the writer. Sins of the father is far too theatrical to ever have a place in a courtroom. Even if I didn't know anything about George Zimmerman would be wary of him on a dark night. It is a visceral thing..So I would never be chosen for a juror.

"The Zimmerman clan" < reality check here Steph.. You got an old retired Judges helper dude from some other state..He knows no one.. You got his kid .. does Community watch in a bad neighbor hood..< yeah I would carry a gun too.., that really does not institute a "CLAN" this author is venting because he feel an injustice was done to his race. Because he was told so by the likes of sharpton and Jackson.. These same people have the whole country believing a man came back from the dead a few thousand years go ,, oh and he had a Virgin Mother too..But Santa Clause is not real...Do you really listen to this argument?

Old retiredjudges helper dude? Robert Zimmerman retired from Orange County Fla to Vuirginia. You have gone way overboard on your descriptions, etc. You need a reality check, badly.

Zimmerman is a classic example of the judge's son who killed Natalie Holloway. He kept getting his son out of trouble, and made excuses for him until he died. Then the son killed again, daddy isn't around and his mother knows her son is a hopeless killer, that she can't help . Robert Zimmerman, knows this about his son, the next time the son may kill him !

Z probably cant even spell sue anymore due to the fact that he got his head beat again the concrete to the fact he was "almost unconscious " and he needed "stitches"... that's what the family and lawyer said

And Once Again...without any hard core facts, we have another wanna be expert in human relations penning dribble without waiting for evidence to come to light. And now this one is penning to punish the family for the deeds of the son. A far stretch for someone who has never met the family and doesnt know the dynamics of the family life. Irresponsible penmanship from a professor who lives behind a college life. Nice one Professor. Do you teach critical thinking or just critique everyone as you see them through the media?

Federal Law: 18 U.S.C. §922(g)(8):

Bits and pieces of what a Gov. you claim fixes presidential elections said.. however it don't matter.. because Zimmerman does not have an order of protection on him at the time that he protected himself aginst the now famous trayvon attack.

Lol...he can fix elections, sign bills and run in 2016 too. If you stalk someone is that self-defense? Love the nuance 'not at the time' as if one day he had a restraining order and voila, it drops the next day so he can be a vigilante, watchmen watch and report and aren't supposed to pack but...Given what's on police record for GZ versus TM, I'd side with Jeb on this one. Btw, LBJ was good at fixin' 'lections too little buddy...

"Then there’s the concealed weapons permit questionnaire. Did Zimmerman fill one of these out? Here’s some of the questions:

ā€œHave you had adjudication of guilt withheld on any felony?ā€ That could be a yes. I presume attacking a cop is a felony. But conviction was withheld when he entered a pretrial diversion program.

ā€œHave you received a suspended sentence on any felony?ā€ That could also be a yes."

Paramount in the reasons to take down former judge Zimmerman, is that this one old man is willing to upset the domestic tranquility, even to incite a riot...to keep his 'sick creation' from justice.

We as a society, simply can no longer tolerate this level of criminal influence in our justice system.
If we do let justice slip away here...then how do we convince our children & grandchildren to respect the rule of law.
It is folly to believe we can have it both ways...JUSTICE NOW !!!!

Boyce, your point was well-taken. Zimmerman has a history of getting out of scrapes without taking responsibility and often by blaming the other party. No one has mentioned if "closed" or "sealed" cases can be opened by State Attorney Angela Corey. Speaking of responsibility, has Chief Lee been permanently sacked yet? Did he really say to Trayvon's parents that Zimmerman's record was squeaky clean and that he was a college student to justify the homicide or to explain why he was letting Zimmerman go? Ted Bundy was a college student with a squeaky clean record until he killed his first woman. In addition, what do those two things have to do with innocence in this case? Nothing! Lee should be fired for telling the parents such nonsense.

What I find so interesting is the father involvement and the desire to sell to the public the story of GZ either never leaving his truck or going back to his truck without turning the corner to see where Travyon was at.The question is, how do they explain where Trayvon's body was found in conjunction to where they want us to believe Zimmerman stop tailing him?

Trayvon's body was in wide open space 60 yards from his destination. Why wasn't his body around the corner nearer to Zimmerman's truck? It's clear Papa Zimmerman wanted to stick to the part where GZ obeyed the 911 operator and that is why they are pigeonholed themselves to being on the other side of the corner despite where Travyon's body was found.

I'm sure if he gets charged, his story will change but he will still cry self-defense.

The police said there was a minute for everything G.Z. told his dad to happen and I went to the site and there is no way Zimmerman went to the other street looking for an address to give the police because the whole minute would have been gone and wouldn't have time to get beatup like he said that he did for about a minute. I believe G.Z. ran after T.M. right after he hung up with 911. T.M.'s girlfriend heard when Zimmerman caught up with T.M. and spoke to him. Jeb Bush who actually signed the "stand your ground" law said it does not apply to G.Z. because he followed T.M. I'm sure you are right, he is going to be crying self-defense anyways if he gets charged.

I can't help but wonder if members of the Sanford PD are charged with corruption as it relates to this case, how many of them would ask for leniency in exchange for testimony (a la the Danziger Bridge atrocity in New Orleans?) That's where the DOJ and FBI should go first before going after (the) Zimmerman(s.)
