AN ANCIENT JAPANESE TALE

During a war in ancient Japan, the invading army would quickly sweep through villages, kill everybody and take control. In one particular village, everyone fled just before the army arrived, except a Zen monk who stayed behind. Curious about this old man, the general went to the temple to see for himself what kind of man this monk was. When he wasn't treated with the deference and submissiveness to which he was accustomed, the general burst into anger. "You fool," he shouted as he took out his sword, "Don't you realize that you are standing before a man who could run you through without blinking an eye!?"

The master was unmoved and replied calmly: "And do you realize my friend, that you are standing before a man who can be run through without blinking an eye?"

FEAR IS A NIGHTMARE

Our parents gave birth to us, fact that actually makes them our parents.
Anybody would agree it would be crazy to say that we gave birth to our parents.
But in the same way, we hold the same power within our bodies,
to give birth to our children and become parents.

In the same way, the Source of this world: the Great Spirit or the Great Mystery as the native American elders call the Source of all things, has created us.
We can all agree that we are not self-created.
And it would be crazy to say that we have created the Source.
But in the same way, we hold the same power within our minds,
to create what we think and firmly believe.

The Great Mystery creates only through love.
We can also create what is not love, but then what we create looks like a nightmare. Nightmares seem real because they are created by our minds, that hold the same creative power as the Source but they are gone when we woke up to love.

As nightmares disappear at the break of dawn,
our fears disappear with the first rays of self acceptance and love.
Whatever fear you experience today, bring it into the light
and it will melt under your heart's warm embrace.

Fear seems real because it rises up in your mind, which has great creative power.
But we give too much credit to what is just a nightmare.
There is great peace waiting for you at love-rise.
