Movmnt, a new arts magazine about dance, music, fashion and style launches tonight with its debut issue, the first of two planned for 2006 before going quarterly in 2007. Movmnt's founders, David Benaym (Editor-in-Chief/Publisher) and Danny Tidwell (Artistic Director), both have deep media and artistic cred: the French Benaym has published a Brussels weekly, has been a political correspondent for several European media outlets in D.C for the past three years, has published numerous specialty art books, and - fun fact! - was the voice of the French version of MovieFone ("Bonjour! Bienvenue a MovieFone!"); Tidwell is a dancer who left the American Ballet Theatre to work on other creative projects, of which the magazine became one. They have assembled a team of editors and designers coming from Vogue, L'Uomo, l'Officiel, L'Optimum and Circuit Noize, as well as the odd dancer/choreographer. The first issue will feature Desmond Richardson, Mia Michaels (one of the judges on "So You Think You Can Dance"), Dwight Rhoden and Debbie Allen, of "Fame" fame. Movmnt launches with a circulation of 20,000 and very few vowels.
