More acquisitions for Condé Nast's Portfolio, which keeps hiring in anticipation of having an actual magazine and website launch seven months from now: Today they announce the hiring of Kurt Eichenwald as a senior writer and investigative reporter, effective October 1st. Eichenwald has been part of the NYT's crack investigative team since 1988, and most recently garnered acclaim for his six-month investigation into child pornography on the web, about which Jack Shafer had opinions.
Eichenwald is only the latest get for Portfolio, for which acquiring hot new staffers is evidently as easy as reaching into their magical money fountain (aka Si Newhouse). In addition to recent acquisitions like Matt Cooper from Time, Gabe Sherman from the New York Observer, Dan Roth from Fortune, Jim Impoco from the NYT and Jesse Eisinger from the WSJ, Portfolio has also signed on Vanity Fair and New York contributor Duff McDonald as a contributing editor (and HuffPo contributor, thank you very much). With seven months to go until even the website is active, let alone a published magazine, things are looking rosy for jobseekers — and the people that seek the jobs they leave when Portfolio inevitably snaps them up.
