    One step closer to world domination: Rupert Murdoch has made an unsolicited, $5 billion bid for Dow Jones, and its flagship paper, the Wall Street Journal. There is speculation the Bancroft family may turn down the bid...for now. Let the saga begin. On the down side for us, Murdoch is not nearly as easy to rhyme with as Zell. [NYT, E&P]

  • Moss is the new black: Adam Moss' New York swept the Ellie awards last night, shutting out David Remnick and the New Yorker, who went home empty-handed. More exclusive ETP coverage of all the fun and chocolate fountains to come. [NYT]

  • MySpace Intervention: Barack Obama's unofficial MySpace page was shut down at the request of his campaign, and traffic was re-directed to the official site. In the course of change-over Obama lost 91% of his friends. [Politico, TechPresident]

  • Ex-Newsweek editor to join NBC: Mark Whitaker, former editor of Newsweek magazine, has been named senior vice president for NBC news, "a job that will make him the No. 2 executive in the network's news division." [NYT]

  • Found: missing newspaper readers. According to an analysis by Nielsen//NetRatings for the Newspaper Association of America, there was a record number of visitors to newspaper websites in the first quarter of 2007. [MediaPost]
