We all know that "birther queen" Orly Taitz is cuckoo bananas, with her ridiculous conspiracy theory that President Obama is not a U.S. citizen. Evidence and facts haven't slowed her down. She continues questioning the President's citizenship, most recently challenging the placement of his name on the New Hampshire primary ballot.

Just last week, Taitz testified before the New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission that President Obama's birth certificate was forged and, therefore, his name should be removed from the New Hampshire ballot. The commission unanimously rejected to remove Obama's name from the ballot. That didn't sit well with the birther crowd that included several state representatives from New Hampshire. The meeting ended with two state employees having to lock themselves up in an office while members of the audience banged on the door and called them traitors. I'm giving State Reps. Harry Accornero and Susan DeLemus chanclasos for losing their minds and jumping on the birther bandwagon.

Getting What You Didn't Know You Wished For

Alabama's immigration law that demands proof of citizenship during traffic stops is full in effect and one of the
was a German executive at the Alabama Mercedes-Benz plant for driving without a driver's license. Gov. Robert Bentley was so nervous about the arrest that he placed a call to see what he could do. Not sure Gov. Bentley realized having executives from one of the biggest companies in Alabama arrested was going to be one of the drawbacks from the immigration bill he signed into law. The
was quick to jump on this story and urge Mercedes-Benz to move to its plant to Missouri because it's a much more welcoming state. I'm throwing Gov. Bentley a
chanclaso
for enacting the immigration law without thinking through all the obvious consequences and potentially costing his state thousands of good paying jobs.

Aplausos

Let's give a big
aplauso
to Thanksgiving, a great time to be surrounded by familia y amigos. Thanks to all the families and friends who open up their homes and stay up all night preparing a big feast.

And thanks to Texas' kicker Justin Tucker for making a 40-yard field goal to defeat the Texas A&M Aggies 27-25 in what could be the last meeting between the schools.

El Chanclaso

For many Latinos, a chancla is more than summer footwear. The flip flops on our mothers' feet were also impromptu and easily accessed weapons. Back talk, ignoring orders or fighting with your siblings could, without warning, result in a chancla on the rear end or, if distance was a factor, flying at you.

Now we're all grown up. But some people still deserve chanclasos. And we're going to let them have it here in our weekly column, El Chanclaso. Every Friday, Sergio, our resident chancludo, will turn a critical eye on political shenanigans, and current issues and events with his chancla firmly in hand. Depending on the severity of the misbehavior, being on the wrong end of the chancla could get you one or two chanclasos. Sergio will also give aplausos to those who make us proud. You've been warned. Now, behave!

Sergio Lopez hails from the great city of San Antonio and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He thanks his mother for judiciously using her chancla to set him straight.
