In no particular order, here are 10 stupid questions -- yes, Virginia there are stupid questions -- and networking faux pas. These are applicable universally but overheard/developed at the 39th Annual National Black Journalists Association Convention and Career Fair #NABJ14:

1. Asking "do you remember me." This question is awkward, forces me to lie and doesn't add to the conversation. Instead, greet the person and introduce yourself.

2. Instead of saying "nice to meet you," say "good to see you." It's more inclusive in case you have met before and forgotten.

3. Asking "is this your first convention." Questions need to be open-ended and not require a one-word answer. Instead, say what convention it is of yours and ask how the convention is going and ask what their favorite convention was and why.

4. Be on time to events -- maybe even a little early.

5. Have your resume and business card ready. The former in paper and electronic form.

6. Not exchanging cards or information especially when someone gives you theirs.

7. Not connecting on social media.

8. Make eye contact.

9. Have a firm handshake; readjust if necessary and practice your handshake.

10. Follow up after meeting -- a written snail mail correspondence stands out.

Peace and blessings.
