Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich's B&B Ristorante, Carnevino, and Enoteca San Marco are extremely proud of their Bet on the Farm, the Farmer's Market in Las Vegas that takes place every Thursday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Batali Bastianich Hospitality Group's off -site storage facility. Over the last two years Mario and Joe's restaurants in Vegas have been committed to finding the best produce for their restaurants and a year ago they took the next step and brought all these farmers together in one place so that they might be shared with Las Vegas residents.

The Inaugural Bet on the Farm Market
1 of 11
The Market began in June 2009. Mario Batali & Joe Bastianich, along with their partners at the Palazzo Hotel Casino, came together for a one-day event celebrating Batali/Bastianich Hospitality Group’s accomplishments in the realm of sustainability. The occasion was marked by a Green Market inside the Palazzo Waterfall Atrium and celebrated the initiation of the truly sustainable Farmer's Market as well as the Green Restaurant Certification achieved by all three of Batali and Bastianich’s Vegas restaurants.

I try and visit farmers' markets where ever I visit, why not in a casino, many are held in parking lots or manicured parks. Guerrilla gardeners prove that with a little care and the right plants you can grow produce almost anywhere.

I know there are a lot of people out there questioning the viability of a farmers market, let alone a city, placed squarely in the middle of the desert; but this is a great way to preach sustainability and locavore living to a whole new demographic. And to the comments about having a farmers market inside being sacrilegious- ITS LAS VEGAS!

Reminds me of the enormous farmer's market in San Francisco.

Sounds like the restaurantures are dissatisfied with there air-conditioned and concrete environment and are reaching out for something green. Man wasn't meant to live everywhere.

Las Vegas is an unnecessary city and a waste of resources.

Hey....if they can promote sustainability in a place of excess...I say why not put it in a casino! Spread the word! Nevada is an unsustainable climate, but if tourists get the message and bring it back home with them to Oshkosh B-Gosh - then it served its purpose.

A farmer's market inside is just ... wrong.

And a farmer's market inside a CASINO is just ... WTF?

A farmer's market in the desert is as unsustainable as cities in the desert. Oh, wait...

Yeah gots to agree with you. Not a lot grows here. My only productive fruit tree is a 5 year old Lemon tree.

I had to build him his own shade cover to survive though.

Would love to know where the farms are. Although I do know of a local pig farm. They eat all the left over buffet food so I don't think I want to eat any of those pigs though.

I'm glad that Batali is covering the would be farmers' market. Now we need him and others to give some good coverage to New Orleans and their farmers' market to help draw tourists to NOLA.

Loved Gilcrease Orchard when I lived in Las Vegas. I would shop there on a weekly basis, best apples I've ever had, crisp, sweet, non-waxed.
