36 Hours in Paris Avec Enfants: 5 Things to Do And See (PHOTOS)

Posted: 04/13/2012 7:00 am

Our brood of three young girls and two tired parents recently had a whirlwind 36 hours in Paris before heading southwest to the Dordogne region.

Our girls ages 9, 7 and 4 had never been to Paris. With only 36 hours, short attention spans and sleep deprivation we were seeking the ultimate itinerary for a speedy trip to Paris with kids. Here is Poshbrood's mom-tested and parent-approved list of must-dos:

Paris Muse offers high-quality private tours in front of the world's greatest art collections. The instructors are trained and experienced art historians and native English speakers. Paris Muse has a group of family-focused tours to make your experience in Paris a lasting memory for your children. We chose the Paris Muse Clues: A Family Tour for Young Treasure Hunters of The Louvre.

Our guide, Emma, was from Ireland but was in Paris studying art and was a wonderful and patient guide for the girls. Emma's tour allowed us and the girls to learn from the same works of art, but the kids received motivation through "Paris Muse Clues," our educational and interactive treasure hunt through a broad range of collections (Ancient Near East, Greek and Roman, Renaissance Italian, French), asking specific and detailed questions about many of the Louvre's masterpieces.

I had studied in France and have been to the Louvre a half dozen times but had never seen or learned about the fascinating Code of Hammurabi -- a well-preserved Babylonian law code -- dating back to about 1772 BC. When the girls learned that if a Babylonian child struck his or her parents, they would not just get a time out but their hand cut off, they were quite stunned and behaved quite nicely the rest of the tour.

Paris Muse also offers Notre Dame and Paris walking tours for families. This is a wonderful way to for families to experience Parisian art and culture and keep children engaged and interested in learning more. Paris Muse tours are private for families of five or less and cost from 250-290 Euros for two or three hours depending on the tour.
