American Express is the overall winner, with one of its cards placing in every category and taking top honors for customer service. None of these American Express cards has an annual fee.

His top cash-back card was from Pentagon Federal, the PenFed Visa Platinum Cashback Rewards Card. While PenFed's products are geared to military families, you can join a partner non-profit organization and still apply for this card.
