Where I Like To Read

Posted: 02/14/2012 11:53 am

Editors love a lot of description. I don't go in for all that. I'll let my character answer the question.

"Where do I read? All over. In the living room part of my office on a comfortable couch with a TV hanging on the wall I don't know how to use. In the kitchen, making a hard-boiled egg for breakfast, reading the paper. In bed, at night, but I don't read as much now. I just finished The Pregnant Widow by Martin Amis. I don't need anything else when I read. The sound of the words in my head is enough."

Elmore Leonard's latest book, Raylan, is out now.

I love the way he writes. I got caught up in his books when I came across the one with the old man who loved U of M cheerleaders.

Mr. Leonard is a man after my own heart. I will read absolutely anywhere and everywhere. I often wonder how people can eat alone without something to read. What can they possibly be thinking about?

Elmore Leonard doesn't know how to use his wall? How weird . . .

Ha ha. When you learn to write as well as Elmore Leonard, THEN you'll have the right to nit-pick his sentences.

Ha ha indeed. Lucky for me, you don't get a vote. Lighten up - Mr. Leonard has suffered no lasting damage from my comment.

Reading is the ultimate form of personal entertainment. I good book can get you through anything. I love reading while I walk. I find a side street I've never been down, open up a book and let my feet match the rhythm of the words in my head.

I love to read on the bus or subway, in the breakroom at work, in the bathroom, in bed, on the couch, ANYWHERE. A book has things that a smartphone or laptop, or tablet or ebook cannot even begin to approach.

Dogs are great but, a great book is really man's best friend.

Raylan is a hilarious book. You can tell he had a blast writing it.

I'm almost finished with it, a terrific Leonard read.

It parallels the last season & this season of Justified very closely.
