Another Chicago great: the Poetry Slam turns 25 on July 30th, and will celebrate in true, outrageous, Poetry-Slam-style at the Metro.
Known for its ritualistic poetry performances, taking place religiously at the Green Mill on Sunday evenings at 7pm, the Poetry Slam has been an international education tool to help young people express themselves and communicate.
I sat down with Poetry Slam founder and performance poet Marc Smith for Fear No ART Chicago to discuss how this rough and tough guy from the Southeast side came to create such an institution. Marc discusses the impact of the Poetry Slam around the world and how performance poetry changed his life, all from the bar of the legendary Green Mill. Click below to view. The last 30 seconds are some pretty fun out-takes from this unlikely poet!
