The Avett Brothers and Phoenix shows may be sold out, but fortunately for the lucky show goers of Denver, there are still some exciting live performances to catch this week including The Retribution Gospel Choir, White Rabbits, and Jonsi, from Sigur Ros.
April 17: Retribution Gospel Choir
If you've ever sat through a show by slowcore legends Low, then you owe it to yourself to catch the Retribution Gospel Choir perform live. Do not pass up this chance to witness Low front man Alan Sparhawk's loud and colorful re-emergence at the helm of a power trio, flanked by Low bassist Steve Garrington and drummer Eric Pollard. From power pop to prog Retribution Gospel Choir can do it all. Their no-holds-barred live performances reminds us all that classic rock is still a rich and varied tradition, despite radio programmers tireless attempts to reduce two decades of music to a dozen or so overplayed songs.

April 21: White Rabbits
When Donnybrook faves White Rabbits hit the stage at Boulder's Fox Theater, fans can expect a high energy show of danceable numbers touched by ska and replete with instrument swapping. It doesn't matter if Greg Roberts or Stephen Patterson is helming the mike, a typical White Rabbits number is incredibly tight, and makes the most of the band's two drummers, Jamie Levinson and Matthew Clark. Add in Patterson's essential contribution on piano and White Rabbits promises, as always, to entertain. Here We Go Magic, Brooklyn-based purveyors of neo-psychedelia, open the show.

April 21: Jonsi
Jonsi Birgisson rose to prominence as the lead singer for Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Ros. Jonsi has just released Go, his first solo effort, which is as up-lifting as it is distinctive. Go's songs showcase the fluttering flight of fancy that is Jonsi's voice. Like Patrick Wolf minus the out-sized ego, Jonsi rides a wave of thundering drums, and angelic backing vocals that should make for a spectacular live performance. Jonsi enlisted a production company to curate a night of film, art, theater, and animation to accompany the music, so for one night only indie rockers can drench themselves in the sort of spectacle usually reserved for the likes of Cirque du Soleil.
