Some people on TV give all kinds of wrong information to the viewers. Maybe they do it for the political interests of the TV channel, maybe they shape the information with their own opinions or maybe even they don't know that the information they are giving is wrong. But nevertheless, a majority of the people who are watching believe what is being said and moreover, they start spreading this false piece of information as well. So one piece of false information given by one person causes a huge pollution of false information. It resembles a snowflake becoming a huge snowball rolling down a hill. It becomes bigger and more dangerous as time passes.
However, TV is a tool of education as much as it is a tool of entertainment. The people on TV are usually respected and many people believe them. Unfortunately, most people don't like to read and research. Nobody has the right to deceive other people intentionally or unintentionally. Some groups use TV as a tool of power and this suits the books of certain politicians. But I think it's high time that we said no to this with a law.
People should be able to sue the TV channel or the person on TV who spreads false information. And the procedures for cases of this type should be made as simple as possible and a verdict should be passed quickly. A certain fine should be given to the channel and the person. That's how we might get ahead of some irresponsible people making the population ignorant. Of course this is not limited to TV. The same system should be applied to radio, newspapers and social media. I have no doubts that the nation who adopt this type of legislation will become more civilized and more democratic in no time. An ignorant nation can never reach an advanced level of civilization and we can prevent our people from becoming ignorant by starting to implement these changes.
Of course I don't know if any steps will be taken towards these ideas in the future. Honestly I don't think it will happen in anywhere aside from a couple of countries. Oh these games of politics! Anyway, a second option I can recommend, just like the Welsh writer Roald Dahl said in "Charlie's Chocolate Factory":
"So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.
Then fill the shelves with lots of books."
