The world stood on its feet as Ferrari crossed the finish line at the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand prix on the 26th of March 2017. It was team Scuderia’s first win in Australia since 2007 when the remarkable debutant Kimi Raikkonen crossed the finish line coming first.

We can all agree however, that Formula 1 racing is not the only thing Ferrari does great but where the brand really outdoes itself is in their expertise of high-end supercars - one of my favourites being the 1995 Ferrari F50.

I will always remember falling in love with the Ferrari F50 back in 1995 when as a very young boy. My dad took me to my first ever Sydney International Motorshow, held at iconic Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia. It was there, at the ripe age of nine, I saw one of the greatest cars in existence. I was instantly hooked and it would be an obsession that would follow me from that day forward.

I remember seeing a small Ferrari stand selling miniature model cars, the closest I could get to the real thing, and I just had to have one. The line was long, every child and their dad was patiently waiting to grasp their hands around a 1/18 model of the F50. To me, the excitement was uncontrollable and as soon as I was able to feel it in my hands I knew this was an insatiable love that I one day would have to fulfil.

Back in 1995, the Ferrari F50 provided the most remarkable performance figures for its time. For starters it uses an F1 derived V12 engine that produces 513 horsepower, does 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and the roof comes off turning it into an open-top hypercar. Ferrari limited the production to only 349 units, making this one of the rarest modern Ferrari’s ever produced.

Fast forward 22 years later and here I stand at Ferrari Maserati Sydney, bringing a passion to life while I watch a Ferrari F50 in the flesh receiving a major service. It doesn’t stop there though. This obsession, coupled with the drive to succeed and chase my childhood dreams, has allowed me to build my very own Ferrari collection that includes the Ferrari F40 and my 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale. A small show of the rewards you reap when you show focus, hard work and dedicated passion in everything you choose to do.

It needs no mentioning that I am a fan of the Ferrari light weight road racing models that present themselves in a limited production run, so when Sydney’s weather put on a spectacularly clear day, I had to take advantage of the opportunity to drive my 2004 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale to Ferrari Maserati Sydney.

My hunt for that dream car, the Ferrari F50 is still on, and to me, Ferrari is still winning whether it’s on the race track or the cars they build, there’s always a place in my heart for the cavallino rampante.
