Traveling the world is a dream of most people and luckily for this generation, it’s something that can easily be done. In a survey by the MMGY Global, 37% of millennials out of 2,300 adults in America reported that they wanted to go on a trip by themselves in the next few months. That’s a rise of 5% from the stats that were reported a year ago. The interest to go solo traveling among millennials is also reportedly higher than older generations. This is most likely because during the time of the older generations, not many countries were very accessible and traveling was expensive.

If you do decide to go on a solo trip, then there are a few essential things that you have to pack before you begin your trip. The key here is to pack as little as possible and bring only the important stuff. Here is a list of stuff you have to bring with you:

1. Big Backpack or Small Suitcase

When traveling alone, it’s always best to bring just one hand carry-on luggage with you. Pick either a big backpack (waterproof, ideally) or a small suitcase. Don’t bring more than one as you have no one to help you lug them around.

2. Global Adapter

This is one of the most important things to bring is a global adapter because you’ll need it to plug in your mobile phones or laptop chargers. Not all hotels or inns provide adapters so it’s good to bring your own.

3. Phone and Charger

Of course, everyone needs to bring their phone with them. You’ll need the phone to call for help during an emergency or to call your family to let them know you’re okay. You’ll also need a universal charger to make sure your phone doesn’t run out of battery.

4. First Aid Emergency Kit

In your first aid kit, you’ll need all the necessary things to treat injuries like antibacterial substances and plasters. You’ll also be putting here your medicines just in case of emergencies.

5. Toiletries Bag

This is where you’ll be keeping all your toiletries like soap, shampoo, a toothbrush, and some toothpaste.

6. Portable Tent (For Campers and Hikers)

If you plan on going camping or hiking, you’ll need a portable tent so you can sleep comfortably in the outdoors.

7. Jacket or Sweater

In the event of cold weather, having a jacket or sweater will be very useful to keep you warm so don’t go traveling without one.

8. Small Plastic Bags

These small plastic bags will help you store biodegradable materials without letting moist get in. You can put unfinished food inside or medicine. The plastic bags will help protect the components inside from getting affected by the outside. I personally prefer to Ziplocs items I want to secure during the travels.

9. Documents Holder

You’ll definitely need this to put your passport, your papers, your IDs, and your other documents needed for traveling.

10. The Right Amount of Clothes
Lastly, you’ll need the right amount of clothes. The technique is to bring one outdoor outfit and one sleeping outfit per day. The same would go for undergarments. Also, bring two pairs of shoes― one for casual use and one for outdoor activities. Be sure to bring a pair of slippers along with you so you have something to wear in the place you’re staying at. It’s also pretty handy to compression storage bags (those you could just vacuum in!) to help compress all the items in your bag! ;)

Let me know what are your must-pack for your solo travels!
