Blimey, that was bloody gormless!
If you've ever heard anyone cursing across the pond, then you know it's difficult to figure out what exactly they're saying. Thankfully, the wise Brits at YouTube channel Anglophenia -- along with those from a few other sources -- have introduced us to some choice British swear words that are not only useful, but delightfully silly-sounding. Brush up before your next trip, or use the words stateside for optimal entertainment.
1. Bloody
Used to intensify pretty much any idea: Stop bloody swearing!
2. Bollocks
...literally means testicles. Use when something goes wrong (Bollocks, I broke my teacup!), when someone lies to you (Bollocks, you cheat!) or when something is awesome (This crumpet is the dog's bollocks).
3. Pissed
Drunk: I'm pissed after just two martinis.
4. Rat-Arsed
An even better way to say you're drunk: I'm rat-arsed after four martinis.
5. Sod Off
Go away, get out: Sod off, Cornelia. I'm trying to watch 'Game of Thrones!'
6. Muppet
Someone stupid or gullible, like an actual furry puppet creature: You're a brainless muppet.
7. Cock-up
To majorly screw up: I arrived late to the tea party. What a cock-up.
8. Gormless
Clueless, lacking intelligence, foolish: James is so gormless when he forgets to bring tea.
9. Naff
Incredibly uncool: By now, hair scrunchies are naff.
10. Numpty
An old-school way of calling someone stupid: You dim-witted numpty!
11. Blimey O'Reilly!
An expression of shock, borrowed from the Irish: Blimey O'Reilly, I'm totally pissed!
