The 5 Most 'Overrated' Things About Australia (PHOTOS)

Honestly, I don't see why people around the world get so excited about kangaroos. Perhaps it's because they believe that they are highly intelligent. In truth, kangaroos are rather dim-witted.

OK, I'll admit it: I was trying to cause trouble. Suggesting that baseball is the world's most overrated sport (and devoting an entire chapter to explaining this) was always going to annoy a few (million) Americans. When it was mentioned in (among other outlets) USA Today, ESPN and a slideshow in The Huffington Post, a few people made it clear that an Australian had no right to tear apart something that Americans hold dear. "So this guy criticizes America and gets a book deal out out of it?" said one critic. "That sounds like sour grapes!" Er, yeah... it does.

Others went on a counter-attack. "Everyone in Australia is overrated -- nyaah!" said one bright spark. (Sorry, the "nyaah!" wasn't there, but it probably should have been.) In fairness, not everyone in Australia is overrated. But now that I've been unfairly accused of being anti-American (so I know how President Obama must feel), and now that I'm back home after a few weeks in the US, I'll name the five most overrated things about Australia.
