Last year was the year of the contour, while this year it’s been all about the glow. The brighter you shine the better you look, right? While these trends are fun and big money makers for cosmetic companies, many people just can't see themselves becoming an “Instagirl.”

While makeup is used for many things, trends propagated on social media tend to overshadow what celebrities are actually rocking on the red carpet. Although “Instaglam makeup” is all in fun, the average woman can be intimidated and feel a sense of inadequacy about her looks.

Some of the makeup greats have begun to feel the same pressure, and have answered by creating products that focus on the everyday woman. Today's woman on the move barely has time for breakfast, let alone an hour for a full glam session.

Veteran artist and cosmetic line owner Bobbi Brown says, "I believe in individual beauty, and it's just not my aesthetic. We don't need to be contouring like the Kardashians."

I couldn't agree more.

Makeup should reflect who you are, not who someone else is. If you're the girl who loves to rock a bold lip color and eyelashes, then do so with confidence. If you love a simple face with just a little lip gloss, then go for it and be flawless.

Being flawless is an attitude. People are looking for great ideas for out-the-door makeup looks. Here is a quick idea you can try:

  • Apply face powder, mascara, liner, and lipstick. If you like a little more glam, try adding lashes, blush, and a light coat of bronzer. You'd be surprised how much these quick application ideas can help you feel better and bring out your best features.

Now that Fall is here, we can expect to see more dark lip colors and and neutral faces. If you’re not into the Fall look, no worries. Some people like the summer look all year around. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
