Fatt Father

Fatt Father has been a staple of the Detroit hip-hop scene for a long time now, most notably as a member of the group Fat Killahz with Marvwon, Shin E Bango, and King Gordy. While he has been this staple of Detroit hip-hop, Fatt Father really has never gotten the full credit he truly deserves from the the hip-hop community as a whole for his deeply thoughtful and socially conscious songwriting, but that should change with the release of his new album Veteran’s Day, due out November 11th and produced entirely by the North Carolina-based D.R.U.G.S. Beats. We have a first listen for the track “Everybody” from Veteran’s Day along with a short Q&A about the song and album.

"Everybody" is a very socially conscious track. What motivated you to write this?

Frustration!!! Not only am I sick and tired of all of the systematic racism against people of color, I'm also tired of people (all races) not seeing the bigger picture. Racism is and has been a problem since the beginning, however, racism is only one element of the problem. Divide and conquer, whether it's by race, sex, income, religion, politics, etc.... It all boils down to POWER and until we understand and address that, nothing will change. So basically I was just fed up with all of the worldly BS and when I heard this track it spoke to me and told me to vent.

You have amazing chemistry with D.R.U.G.S. Beats on production. What is it about the music that he makes that brings out something more in you?

D.R.U.G.S. Beats is an amazing producer and everything that we've created thus far has come fairly easy because the music spoke to me. Only great producers know how to make instrumentals speak and D.R.U.G.S. is definitely one of the greats. Salute!

You dig deep into a lot of personal and social topics on the album Veteran's Day. What was your goal in writing this album?

Everybody has a story and many of those stories are similar in different ways. Whether you grew up in a single parent household, served time in prison, lost love ones, or just found yourself in a bad mental space from time to time, Veteran’s Day is an ode to OUR SURVIVAL! We are soldiers of life...Salute!
