It is arguable we have never needed a show of kindness in America more than we do right now, today: We need to remember the things we DO agree on.

When I went on an exploration of over 30 religions, meeting people of every race and walk of life and political/faith orientation—the two things we had it common were a belief in the importance of kindness and gratitude. Today we need KINDNESS MORE THAN EVER.

Our theme today is LAUGHTER, and our Charity of the Day is the COMEDYCURES Foundation:

"The ComedyCures Foundation tickles funny bones! We bring joy, laughter, and therapeutic humor programs to kids and grown-ups living with illness depression, trauma and disabilities. Through large & small scale therapeutic comedy programs, we entertain and educate patients, families and caregivers about the power of a comic perspective and the benefits of laughter and positive emotions on the body, mind, and spirit. "Yes, laughter is great medicine! "

Gratitude: “I am grateful for the gift of laughter!"

Is there anything more healing than a great, deep belly-laugh? Let's take time to appreciate the ability to laugh...to laugh at ourselves...to laugh with those we love.

Good:You can't help anyone else laugh if you aren't laughing yourself, so get in a mirthful spirit by watching funny YouTube videos---here are the "50 Funniest YouTube Videos" to get you started

Good: Then share those videos-- via email, on social media, or text to give someone else a laugh.

Good: Be SILLY. Enough with the seriousness--life has enough problens. Turn up the music loud and do a silly dance with all your people.

Good: Have a "Best fake laugh" competition at work. I promise everyone will be laughing within a few minutes.

Good: Donate to our Charity of the Day, ComedyCures

During the year I explored 30 religions, I found that KINDNESS and GRATITUDE are present in every faith. In spite of our many differences, these qualities unite us.

Later, through a yearlong battle with clinical depression, I discovered that practicing KINDNESS and GRATITUDE are two of the scientifically-proven ways to defeat depression and increase happiness.Coincidence? I don’t think so!I came up with the #AmericaIsKind Challenge as a way to inspire the practice of kindness and gratitude, unite Americans with the things we have in common, help others who may be struggling with depression, and to remind us all that America is kind because Americans are kind.
