A voice with natural-soul, Chloe Campbell’s new single Sick is sure to set the tone for a dynamic 2017. The Bahamian-born singer songwriter chatted with me on her incredible musical background. Her path, although unique is incredibly inspiring and her voice backs her powerful talent. Check out my conversation with this gifted artist on her hit single Sick, her cooking skills and what it’s like collaborating with musical greats. Not to mention her exclusive holiday drop— Santa Baby! There really is no other way to escape the winter blues than right here, take a look.

Mm: I am really loving the line in your song “and one day your going to wish I knew your name”. I feel that line so much, and I also feel like that can be a universal line. In the sense that it is not just pertaining to boyfriend girl friend relationship. It can translate with multiple relationships. What is your personal take on that line because you sing it with such passion?

Chloe: Yea, totally! Whenever I explain the message of sick and how I want it to be taken, its not just for a boyfriend girlfriend relationship. It can be from a friendship that went bad. That is exactly what I meant with that line. Your friend that you have bad blood with and you are going to go on with your life and do amazing things — you have goals. They are going to wish that they hadn't crossed you so that’s what I intended in that line.

Mm: You write a lot of your music which is amazing yet with social media and life being so busy how do you make time to balance being a songwriter and connecting with your fans?

Chloe: It’s important to not let social media take up your time more than it should. Yet, its also important to connect with your fans and create content that they enjoy. They always want to see what you are doing. It really is all for the fans. So its important to have a balance and I make sure I am putting everything that I am doing out there yet at the same time, I always find time to write. At the end of the day that’s my true passion. It’s a balance but I think I’m doing ok!

Mm: Hahaha, well I think you are doing pretty good! Speaking of your true passion from reading and learning more about you I learned that you come from a musical background. Music has been apart of you from a very young age but when did you personally know that, ok I have a voice this is my path?

Chloe: Well, like you just said, I come from a very musical family everybody played an instrument, sang and was in entertainment. We were always encouraged to express ourselves and do what we love + sing and dance. So I’ve always done it but it was only last summer— not the summer that just passed, the summer before that, that I realized this is what I’m suppose to do and there’s nothing else.

Mm: REALLY, wow!

Chloe: It’s kind of a hard realization. You know, it just kind of fell in place, I can’t really describe it better than that. It was just a feeling that I had.

Mm: I completely get it. I am actually really intrigued that not until two summers ago it clicked for you. I think thats amazing!

Chloe: Yea, because before that it really was just part of my life. It wasn't like I was thinking about it like a career. It was just a part of my life and apart of me.

Mm: I relate to that in the sense of what I do as well. It was this click and I was like oh, this is it. This is the job I am meant to do. So that is cool you had the same feeling as well. I also think is so dope that you have been collaborating with Switch from Major Lazor in the studio. He has such an epic career background. What have you learned within your career from working with people like such as Cutty Ranks and Switch? Even within making your new single Sick what did you learn within that process as well?

Chloe: Whenever you write a song you just get deeper and deeper into that song writing space. With every song you write you get more and more fluent in song writing. Specifically with Switch, he has a crazy track record like you said. His knowledge with reggae and how he is so immersed in that scene is really cool because you can very naturally pull and weave in bits of that influence into whatever we are doing— so we’ve come up with some really cool stuff.

Mm: Yes, I am so excited that you guys are able to collaborate.

Chloe: No, its great! He’s really good at what he does. He is a great talent.

Mm: Speaking of talent, I read you went to culinary school— is that correct?

Chloe: Well, when I was about 11/12 I didn't go to culinary school although I was like an intern under a head chef. It was at a local restaurant here in the Bahama’s for a little while because I was interested in cooking. It was just another create outlet for me.

Mm: Nice! I too did a brief stint in culinary school after college trying to figure out my life but I loved it. It is a creative outlet. Do you ever see yourself merging music and culinary?

Chloe: Haha, like Snoop Dog and Martha Stuarts cooking show?

Mm: I actually heard that is a really good show. My friends were trying to put me on.

Chloe: I kind of want to as well, I haven't seen it yet. It’s an interesting idea. I mean growing up at one point I was really interested in fashion. I am still interested in fashion and I’m still interested in cooking but music is my main focus for my career.

Mm: I definitely like your style and your sound. It is very rich in soul. I didn't expect you to have such a soulful sound.

Chloe: Thank you

Mm: You have had such a strong year this 2016. Since we are literally at the end, what are some key things you have your eye on the prize for 2017?

Chloe: One thing is just coming up with some more hits. Getting in the studio and writing which I’m always writing. That’s like the main goal, you know. Especially short term, I just want to stay in the studio and continue to make cool stuff. I also have a show in LA on January 9th for School Night at Bardot and I’m really looking forward to that!

Mm: That’s incredible and a great way to start the year strong.

Chloe: Yes, and my live performances are something that I am really passionate about. I want to have an amazing show. I don’t want to just have great songs but I want that part of it as well.

Mm: I’m excited to see you have great things coming ahead of you. Thank you so much for you time, this was great!

Chloe: Thank you it was great talking with you!
