Chefdance: From Fest To Table, A Fresh Approach Every Year

My recent interview with Mimi Kim, one of the most well known names during The Sundance Film Festival.

GC: What is ChefDance?

MK: ChefDance is a platform that bridges entertainment and business by inviting great chefs, great films and great company’s with a specific standard of service in mind. We connect across all industries and all people such as women from various backgrounds, commercial business, creative entertainment industry and the artistic culinary world.

GC: What gives you the drive/passion to do ChefDance?

MK: When you invite great people in one room, great things happen. Food as the common denominator, people are equalized and ChefDance can provide a comfortable and enjoyable environment to finish conversations and go away a little more enlightened and inspired by others. Great friendships and business relations are formed.

GC: What goes into preparing in such a successful event?

MK: It takes lots of great people and tremendous coordination including chefs, selected films, kitchen team, media outlets, sponsors, ChefDance staff and most importantly our guests. Every detail of running a dinner series is important but nothing is more important than the celebratory sprit of the dinner series in congratulating the film makers and celebrate the chefs.

GC: What are the changes you have seen over the years at Sundance?

MK: The market has matured and grown significantly bigger over the years, political and economic changes has also affected the content and attendees of Sundance as well. I’ve seen more social issues being publicized through film such as women’s Rights, gay Rights, Immigration Rights, and the Social Justice issues on Cannabis, etc.

GC: What is your most cherished moment from ChefDance?

MK: I can’t say that I have a specific moment that is most cherished as there are so many. For this year, I am looking forward to Skyler Griswold, my 11 year old daughter, hosting Operation Smile Charity night on Monday, January 22nd. It is such wonderful charity and it is one of my favorite nights each year and I hope many will come out to support.

I am most proud of ChefDance ability to serve as a “connector” or a “bridge”. When you invite great people in one room, great things happen. With food as the common denominator, people are equalized and ChefDance provides a comfortable and enjoyable environment to engage in conversations where you leave feeling more enlightened and inspired by others.

GC: What can attendees expect different at ChefDance 2017?

MK: I see a lot of political and social overtone this year as Trump is taking the office. Women’s March on Saturday on Main Street led by Chelsea Handler, First Future of Cannabis Summit by Arcview, and GirlGaze Glamour luncheon by powerful 30 women in the industry, etc. I feel that the voice of social justice will be heard and covered widely out of Sundance Film Festival.
