Dear friends who have known me as a yoga teacher and leader,

I have—and will continue to— advocate for natural self-help tools that yoga, meditation, breathing practices, and mindfulness provide so graciously in our everyday lives. You and I know these things work. They are not “alternative truths” but an ancient natural health system that has validity even in our western scientific terms.

And now the time has come to take what you know about staying emotionally and mentally balanced and use it to be a conscious activist.

You may feel this message is out of line, and I am willing to risk that right now. I am convinced that we as a country show all the signs of being headed in a direction that we've always thought could only happen elsewhere.

The one thing that seems to be making a difference in influencing congress and the general climate of disaster is THE PEOPLE. I'm imploring you to speak out, share information and your opinions on the web, go to marches, and march right over to your congresspeople's office too.

In other words, thoroughly step out of your comfort zone. It will be exciting as well as scary, depending on your point of view in the moment. You will test your ability to follow the thread of the "yoga mind" as you weave through the unpleasantries that this administration is laying on thick and sticky as mud.

The practice of yoga is for developing an ability to center and be mindful in the moment. Become a conscious activist and you will challenge your notion that you must have a certain routine or a standard box of yoga tools or else you will fall to pieces. You will not. You will liberate yourself from those beliefs as you find your peace and passion in the moment.

You will grow in ways that you never thought possible You will add your power to those who are holding integrity for what our nation stands for and for what is good and true as a human being.

Sure, eventually the cosmic balance will right itself. Nothing lasts forever. But please ask yourself how you would feel if the worst thing you can imagine comes to pass and you didn't do all that you could?

From my forty some years of yoga and meditation lifestyle, being a yoga person means I meditate, intend, hold space, see the whole thing from a cosmic perspective. And now being a yoga person means I apply my meditative mind while I get "fired up and ready to go", as President Obama has said. And I help others do the same if they ask me.

Be courageous. Take action every day. Do what is hard to do and grow into yourself.

If you are wondering what you can do, I guess you haven't been on my Facebook page lately. 😉

I'm happy to help you get started.

Much love, friends,
