“A Charge to Keep I Have”: Love Letter to #HurtBae

Dear Sista’ #HurtBae,

Hello my dear sister-in-pain. My fellow traveler in the pursuit of happiness in romantic partnership. I thought it to be selfish of us as voyeurs of your heartache for one of us not to come forth and pour into to you. I'd first like to commend you for your vulnerability. You exposed your injured heart like a naked model would sit for a painter. We painted our own interpretations as we scoffed at your ex’s callus demeanor. We cried for you as remnants of our own past failed romances stirred up inside of us trying to bring us to our knees in sorrow yet again. I revel in your bravery and you aught to as well. I hope you do know, my love, that it was a brave feat that we witnessed delivered by you. You see, it takes bravery to heal. Why? Simply because it takes fight. In your weakness of that moment you gave birth to your strength and the strength of so many others. I hope and dare you to believe that. Thank you darling for poking at my pain by showing me yours. It causes me to do something that I never thought I'd do: I dropped to my knees and spoke these words:

"Father God, thank you for those heart wrenching experiences that I have encountered with the men that have been in my life. I ask for forgiveness for each and everyone of them that hurt me. I wish them no harm. I pray that whatever train of though or previous experience that gave them the idea that hurting me was acceptable, I ask that you remove it in the name of Jesus. I cast down every wicked trick of Devil that used men to ravage my soul and use my body in ways that are unacceptable in your sight. Loose healing and true love amid the hearts of men and women each day around the world. I pray that the men that hurt me will heal and grow and be the true protectors, providers and lovers that they were called to be by you. I lastly let go God, of any pain or bitterness that has been festering inside of me due to my past encounters and relationships. I pray that myself and all of the hurting women that I encounter find their worth and wholeness in you and not in man. Make me a new creature that has been mended and healed by you ready to be used by you for my good and the benefit of your kingdom. Amen.

You must be a powerful somebody to be able let God use you to make me pray for those that hurt me! I salute you. See, whether you know it or not , your vulnerability provided us women with a wealth of courage to ask the questions that we feared because we refused to be alone. We dared to demand the love, respect and honor that we’d forgotten was rightfully ours. It's now our turn to lift you up, Queen. Watching you be dishonored by this young man places a calling on us to unite on a mission to teach value, self-love, self-esteem, truth, justice, self-care, mental wellness and more. A charge we have to keep, indeed, to lift each other up. Why?

You are a descendant of Queens who have helped discover cures for diseases and continue to stand on the cutting edge of scientific breakthroughs by way of their research and analysis. You are a descendant of fearless warrior Queens who have helped to free slaves, who’ve written and helped pass laws, who marched for freedom, stood up against injustice, died for our rights and equality, continue to educate and empower our children, invented some of our daily life essentials, preach and teach in God's houses and sing the songs of Zion through worship or bow in humble submission in unity before God Almighty. You are the descendant and sister of women who continue to entertain and shape society with their influence through their gift of music, dance and acting as we’ve watch them grace the stages and silver screens offering the idea that we DO have a place in Hollywood, on Broadway, in the director’s chair, in the boardroom and beyond.

You are the sister of women who dominate the art of fencing donning beautiful hijab and dignity and have conquered the sports of tennis, gymnastics, basketball, track and field, swimming and more while the sun highlighted their glowing melanin as their presence proves that black girls are indeed magical. You are the future mother of a human being which makes you so sacred that you should NEVER let any man recklessly occupy a place in your heart, mind and life and especially your body. Your body, your temple, YOUR TEMPLE, is the birthplace of love for your future husband who will undoubtedly see you for the glorious creation you are and honor you. Your temple, YOUR TEMPLE, houses a mind that is full of ideas and promising possibilities. Your temple, YOUR TEMPLE deserves healing, for as a woman you have the birthright and assignment to provide comfort and healing to countless others. YOU are bright and beautiful and gifted beyond measure and your mere presence in this world is a gift.

My darling sister love, start with self forgiveness because the devil has a tricky way of manipulating us into believing that we need to continue to punish ourselves for allowing ourselves to stay in unhealthy relationships by keeping us prisoner in those same cycle of relationships! We are bamboozled into thinking that if we stay that will cleanse us of the fault that we bear for being hurt by another and/or somehow be absolved of some wrong doing. That lie has caused more mental health issues that the law should allow. Rebuild your mindset to entail an even more powerful vision of the Queen that you already are. Boldly await your Boaz and keep Bozo out of your inbox and bed! (Smile).

Sweetheart, there is a beautiful future lying ahead of you. Let your brilliance shine so bright that it burns the eyes of those that mean you no good. The world is waiting so stand in the glowing beams of your purpose. I, your sister, am here. I am here ready to cheer you on into your happily ever after. If you need me I’m here for, “A Charge to Keep I Have”.

Remember, life is not perfect. It’s purposed, for GREATNESS.

With Love From,

Nina
