St. Patrick’s Day began as a religious day of feast and has become an international celebration for the Irish and those that are “Irish at Heart.”
Festivals around the world celebrate Irish culture with fantastic food, music and dancing, and a leprechaun or two. Green is the color of the day so don’t forget to wear something green and make sure to visit your local Krispy Kreme for a green glazed donut!
Green beer dates all the way back to 1914 when a New York physician thought to add a blue tint to beer to give it a green hue.
If you aren’t a fan of green beer, you’re in luck! I’ve got a few St. Patty’s Day inspired cocktail recipes you can make at home:
GOOD LUCK CHARM
1 part Ciroc Vodka 1 part Sour Apple Schnapps
Splash of Sour Mix
Shake.Strain.Pour
Garnish: Granny Smith Apple Slice
POT OF GOLD
½ cup Natalie’s Orange Pineapple Juice. A Splash of Cardamom Bitters
2 oz. Gin Ice
Club Soda Edible Gold Star (sold at cake decorating supple stores)
Shake juice, cardamom bitters and gin with ice. Pour into a glass and add a splash of club soda.
Garnish with a gold star
SLAINTE DE LA NOCHE
1 ½ parts Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila 1 ½ parts coffee liqueur
¼ part vanilla syrup 1 part heavy cream
Combine equal parts vanilla extract, water and sugar bring to a boil to create vanilla syrup. Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass and serve.
TEQ-KIWI
1 ½ parts Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila ¾ part fresh lemon juice
½ part simply syrup Kiwi
Dill Black sea salt
Crushed black pepper
Lightly muddle ½ kiwi and 2 sprigs of dill in a shaker. Combine remainder of ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with kiwi slices and a black sea salt and crushed black pepper rim.
FOUR LEAF TITO’S
2 1/2 oz. Tito's Handmade Vodka 1/2 oz. fresh sour
1/2 barspoon sugar 6 mint leaves
Fresh ginger (about the size of a quarter and slightly thicker)
Muddle ginger and sugar. Add 5 mint leaves and press. Add remaining ingredients and shake over ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish.
Garnish: Mint leaf or sprig
