The People’s Climate March Goes To Washington - For The Children.

New York City sounded the alarm around the world with the iconic People’s Climate March and now we march again on April 29th in D.C. to denounce the full frontal attack on our climate from the White House.

The scheme is obvious: to put profit over planet as Trump and his oil baron EPA Chief and Secretary of State subvert the historic Paris Agreement, erase the Clean Power Plan, and gut the Environmental Protection Agency with death by a thousand cuts. This is an emergency.

In New York City the fight is on. On April 4th, a big coalition pleaded at Senator Schumer’s office to “Save The EPA”. On April 5, the Standing Rock Indigenous resistance camped on the sidewalk outside of Wells Fargo demanding NYC divestment from pipeline banks. And a battle is underway in Albany for a new energy vision. So why march in D.C.?

There are many reasons, emergencies in plain site, as devastation unfolds from killer weather extremes, ocean disruption, and disease proliferation. Coastal homelands from Fire Island to Bangladesh and Miami to the Maldives are washing away. New York City floods. Fires rage.

But above all, we must march because children are watching. And so is the world as the United States fails humanity in this time of dire consequences.

To prove that this Administration is not the voice of America, we must fight for our planet, our children’s future, and all things true and just. We must lead by example, pronounce that Washington is wrong, and prove that we, as compassionate responsible adults, will step into the streets to assert the power of our convictions.

Whether you have children or not, you are a role model, and what we do together today will determine the trajectory for generations to come.

As fate would have it, In our time, in your lifetime, humanity is facing an immortal decision. The very world on which we live is being destroyed by greedy corporations. The primacy of nature, of God’s creation, of Mother Earth - is in jeopardy. All because political operatives intentionally confabulate reason and fact to confuse and distract the people as our destiny is decimated.

We are better than this. And it is time to stand up and prove it.

I am fifty-two years old and I am marching again. But this time I march for the teenagers at Global Kids who are valiantly marching afraid of the future they face. I am marching again with OWS proclaiming "This Is What Democracy Looks Like". I am marching with Bernie and Hillary. And I am marching for my husband, so that Gorsuch does not reverse my marriage equality.

The spirit of activism that descends on Washington when the people decide enough is enough and make the pilgrimage to our capital - to the epicenter of world power - feeds our soul as a nation. We change the political calculus with our bodies, the ultimate checkmate, and our voices, the only hope.

If you have marched this year, keep marching. This is going to be a long four years and we can not get tired two months in. Besides, there is reason for hope! We beat them back on Obama Care because we scared them in Town Halls all over this country. They stood down because the people stood up.

But they will not surrender and technically, they are still winning by far. They control the White House, the Congress, and 2/3rds of the states. They have redrawn the district lines so they win. They have purged the voting roles and colluded with Russians.

This is the most illegitimate government in this history of the United States. And we can not let this stand without a fight.

So on April 29 we march on Washington to declare that America rejects this soulless attack on our planet, its people and all its creatures. We march because we have to.

We may not want to wake up for a 6 a.m. bus on Saturday. But if we don’t, our children will wake up one day to a disaster that happened on our watch. That’s the choice at hand.

It’s time for the People’s Climate March to rise again! Let’s march.

March for Climate, Jobs & Justice.
