Blue Ivy Carter and I have a lot in common.
For starters, we both know what it's like to have moms who run the world. Bey and Carrie (my mom, not the one from the horror movie) have shown Blue and me how important it is to be independent women, so we've both grown up knowing there isn't anything a man can do that a woman cannot.
(That's all to say, Blue: Let's hang.)
This Mother's Day, pause "Lemonade" for a few minutes to recognize that the most badass woman in your life might just be the one who raised you. If you're like me and Blue, here are a few things you know about your mom:
1. She is unstoppable -- at work, at home, in general.
There's no limit to what your mom can get done in 24 hours, which sometimes makes you question what you're doing with your life when you're complaining about ~adulting~ on Twitter and your mom is out there killin' it.
"This goes out to all the women getting it in you're on your grind."
2. She takes sh*t from no one.
If someone messes with your mom, she might not go full-out "Lemonade" on him but... definitely close.
"Disrespect us, no they won't."
3. She's fierce, and she knows it.
She really did wake up like that. ***Flawless
4. She taught you that you -- and only you -- are in charge of your life and your choices.
The idea of asking a man's "permission" to do anything makes you and your mom hurl.
"I'm a grown woman, I can do whatever I want."
5. She's really freakin' popular.
You've never met a person who didn't like her. And no matter where you go with her, you're bound to bump into someone who knows her.
"'Cause 20 minutes after I gave you my number, you already had my mailbox full."
6. She taught you that you determine your own worth.
Because of her, you know that if someone dumps you, or doesn't want to be your friend, that's their loss.
"To the left, to the left."
7. She's shown you that you hold all the cards necessary to reaching your goals. (Holler at your fellow *~independent ladies~*.)
And nobody can get in the way of that.
"All the women who are independent, throw your hands up at me."
8. The hardships in her life are what have made her so strong.
And she's taught you that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
"I'm a survivor, I'm not gon give up."
9. You are endlessly proud to call her your mom.
Your mom might annoy you with requests to solve her technology woes, and sometimes she calls you too much, but you wouldn't trade her for anyone or anything in the world. Like Beyoncé, your mom really truly is the best. (Not really though, 'cause mine is, sorry.)
