A Look At The 60th National Puerto Rican Day Parade

Fifth Avenue in New York City was alive with Puerto Rican pride.

The 60th National Puerto Rican Day Parade took over Fifth Avenue in New York City on Sunday.

Despite having been fraught with controversy over organizers’ initial plans to honor Puerto Rican nationalist Oscar López Rivera, the annual event marched on.

Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, music artist Yandel, salsa star Gilberto Santa Rosa, actress Jeimy Osorio and iconic entertainer Iris Chacón were among those honored at this year’s celebration.

López Rivera was also in attendance, but not as an honoree. Earlier this month he said in a statement that he would only attend as a “humble Puerto Rican.” He rode atop one of the first floats of the event.
