Allan Fung Loses 2014 Rhode Island Governor Race

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung (R) lost to Rhode Island Treasurer Gina Raimondo in the state's governor's race Tuesday.

Fung and Raimondo were seeking the opportunity to succeed Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D), who decided not to run for re-election.

Fung became the mayor of Cranston in 2008. He previously served on the city's council and as a prosecutor in the Rhode Island Attorney General's office. If elected, he would become the state's first Asian-American governor.

Raimondo became a target of labor activists in the Democratic primary over her role reforming the state's pension system. Throughout the race, she had the support of Emily's List, a group that works to elect Democratic women who support abortion rights. They were hoping to make her Rhode Island's first-ever woman governor.
