Brooklyn has been known to produce some of the most prolific hip hop artists since the dawn of the genre. Artists such as Jay Z, Biggie Smalls, Talib Kweli, Fabolous, and Mos Def all hail from the famous borough. No one really understands what it is that births so many great emcees from Brooklyn, but it is well understood it produces quality acts. One new budding artist out of Brooklyn today is Corey Finesse from East Flatbush. His debut mixtape Kaka Show released just last month is gaining traction online, and has major record labels checking out his next moves. Though it is early in his career Corey is showing the talent and potential of a major star in the industry. Yesterday he released visuals for his newest music video “Pain”.

Corey has always had a strong passion for music. From the section of East Flatbush called “The 90s”, he started recording music by the age of 9. He did not start taking music more seriously until he was in 8th grade. A teacher caught him writing lyrics in class, and after that point he realized he should be pursuing music more as a career than a hobby.

As a youth in Brooklyn Corey grew close to neighborhood friends Bobby Shmurda and Rowy Rebel. The trio decided to start a hip hop crew titled GS9. Over the course of a few years they chose to leave behind the street life, and all the negativity that came with it to focus on music. During that time Corey noticed how much better he was getting at the craft, and also saw what the hard work could get him. In the summer of 2014 his GS9 friend and fellow artist Bobby Shmurda became a global phenomenon with his hit single “Hot N*gga”.

Despite the recent sentencing of his fellow GS9 members Corey has stayed positive. In the past few months Corey has been creating constant new material while learning who he is as an artist. The past two records from his mixtape “Vagabond” and “OG” have been in current radio rotation across the country. His work has shown that he has tried experimenting with different sounds and styles to see what he enjoys most. Corey is actually signed to Junior Galette, the NFL Washington Redskins player who listened to Corey's music throughout rehab after encountering a season ending injury. He decided to sign the 23 year old artist to his NuLa Entertainment label.

Recently, Corey also came to the attention of fellow Brooklynite and major media personality Taxstone, who is the host of Tax Season, one of the top rated and most downloaded podcasts on iTunes. In addition to his show, Taxstone is trusted in hip hop circles as someone who recognizes and helps promote young budding talent across all of his platforms. The podcaster and television host also first discovered Bobby Shmurda, and helped to launch his single “Hot N*gga”.

If you are a fan of good music then make sure to follow Corey Finesse on Twitter for the latest news and music updates. He is an artist who is just getting started. There is no telling how far he will go. Only time will tell.
