Another Promise Dead: Trump Won't Back Out Of NAFTA

Donald Trump loves to boast about his excellent negotiating skills, claiming that he’s the best of the best, but yet again could not complete a campaign promise. Trump had said he would pull the United States out of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in order to fix trade, but has gone back on his word.

The president met with the leaders of Canada and Mexico and said he would not immediately terminate NAFTA, but had previously tweeted that he would end the trade deal if the negotiations didn’t go well.

After the obviously failed negotiation, Trump made sure to comment on his remarkable ability by admitting that NAFTA is “very complicated,” after talking to leaders for just ten minutes.

Senator John McCain urged the president to not pull the U.S. from NAFTA, saying that it would “devastate the economy in my state.” According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, about 14 million U.S. jobs depend on trade with Canada and Mexico.

Usually, when a president so openly breaks a campaign promise, voters come after them and demand answers. However, as we’ve seen time and time again, Trump voters are still very loyal to their president and continue to support him and make excuses.
