Here's What It's Like To Text Back And Forth With Ariana Grande

Friends get jealous.

Your phone vibrates in the middle of the night. You’re on the cusp of sleep after a long day that felt as if it would never end. Few people in your life make the shortlist of being worthy enough to drag your body off the bed and face the blinding light that would emanate from your phone. Let alone earn a response.

You haven’t been this tired in years. You wonder if you’ll ever feel rested again or if your body is just hurtling to creakier and creakier years. The people who make the shortlist worthy of texting back are your parents and maybe, just maybe, Ariana Grande. You decide to make sure the message isn’t something urgent from one of those people.

It ends up being from Ariana Grande.

Such is life (I assumed) for rising pop star Jordan Fisher ever since he became friends with the established singer with the voice of Mariah Carey. Just earlier this year, Grande told KIIS FM that Fisher is her “favorite vocalist” and went on to say, “His voice is the most ridiculous.” Then Grande claimed she texts Fisher compliments.

So, in a recent interview I did with Fisher about his debut single, “All About Us,” I had to find out what it’s actually like to text back and forth with Grande.

During our AOL Build interview, Fisher explained that his guitarist is essentially in love with Grande. The singer (and Disney star of the amazingly named “Teen Beach Movie”) found pleasure in making his friend jealous about his text conversations.

“I was texting [Grande] in the front seat once and he was like, ‘Come on! Come on!’” Fisher said with a laugh.

Apparently, the same thing has been happening lately when Fisher texts actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld.

“I was having dinner with some friends and I left my phone on the kitchen counter and Hailee Steinfeld texted my phone,” said Fisher. “My other friend walked by and just screamed when she saw my phone. She’s like ‘You know Hailee Steinfeld is like texting you!’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, she’s saved in my phone. We’re friends.’”

Further talking about what it’s like to text back and forth with celebrities like this, Fisher said that he feels “funny” about the unique opportunity.

“Everybody’s a human being,” said Fisher. “That’s how I look at everybody ... except for Steph Curry, he’s not.”

Here’s the full interview. The Ariana Grande comments are right at the beginning:
