Mayor Bloomberg Reacts To 'ElBloombito' Tweets (Video)

Well, Mr. Mayor, here's a lighthearted question for you: How do you feel about the parody Twitter account that pokes fun at your Spanish?

That was the gist of a question posed by one reporter during a press conference with New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

After giving numerous bilingual updates on Hurricane Irene to the city's residents throughout the weekend, Bloomberg and officials couldn't help but laugh at the inquiry.

"That's great," he said.

He gave his explanation in Spanish, adding, "I'm 69 years old, and it's difficult to learn a new language."

The mayor proceeds to thank firefighters -- en Español, of course -- and, in good humor, turns to the reporter and asks, "Is that sufficient?"

While Irene made its way up the East Coast, thousands of cooped-up residents followed parody Twitter handle "ElBloombito" as Rachel Figueroa-Levin posted comical updates posing as Bloomberg's Spanglish-speaking alter ego.

“I was stuck in the apartment and couldn’t really do anything else,” Figueroa-Levin told DNAinfo.com. She said she created the account as a joke but understood the possible threat the storm posed to residents.
