This Terrifying Killer Worm Will Haunt Your Nightmares

Meet the Bobbit worm: the real-life subterranean assassin you probably never knew existed.

This not-so-little guy is one of the most unsettling ambush predators to date. It buries itself in the ocean floor, silently waiting to pounce on unsuspecting fish that swim overhead in true, cold-blooded fashion.

It uses its five antennae to sense when its next meal is near, and snaps down on its prey with its extremely powerful scissor-like teeth. The Bobbit worm then pulls its helpless victim underground, back to the depths of hell whence it came.

Oh and did we mention, it can grow up to 10 feet long? Seriously, the

ocean is still just as terrifying as it was right after the first time you saw Jaws.

Bobbit worms also go by their more elegant scientific name, Eunice Aphroditois. They allegedly earned the nickname "Bobbit" after an underwater photographer likened their slice-and-dice behavior to that of Lorena Bobbitt, who famously cut off her abusive husband's penis back in 1993.

And if you aren't already terrified enough, avoiding the ocean doesn't necessarily mean you won't come face to face with this nightmarish creature. Bobbit worms have a history of winding up in home aquariums, going unnoticed for years at a time by hiding in pieces of coral and feeding on pet fish.

Yeah, the Bobbit worm sounds like something out of a horror movie, and it kind of is. The ocean is crazy, you guys.
