Buzz Aldrin's Doctor Is David Bowie (Not That One)

It’s truly a “space oddity” we never expected: David Bowie is treating famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

The 86-year-old Aldrin was visiting the South Pole as a tourist last week when his tour company requested emergency evacuation for him for medical reasons.

Aldrin was eventually transported to a hospital in Christchurch, New Zealand, to be treated for fluid in his lungs.

The doctor treating him? David Bowie.

No, this Bowie isn’t the singer who gave the world space-centered songs like “Starman,” “Loving The Alien” or “Space Oddity,” but the coincidence didn’t get past Aldrin’s manager, Christina Korp.

Both Aldrin and Bowie hit the pop culture around the same time. Bowie released his breakthrough single, “Space Oddity,” in 1969, just days before Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became the first people to set foot on the moon, according to Reuters.

Bowie died Jan. 10 at the age of 69.

His last album, “Blackstar,” received three Grammy nominations Tuesday morning, including Best Rock Performance and Best Alternative Music Album, while the title track was nominated for Best Rock Song.

Aldrin remains in quarantine and has been advised by doctors to remain there until the fluid in his lungs clears.
