News of Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris' breakup might have just taken a really 'meh' turn.
Although it didn't initially appear that Harris and Swift ended things with bad blood between them -- sources initially told People "there was no drama" -- another source has since told the magazine that the two broke up because he was unnerved by her incredible career.
"[Harris] said on multiple occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend any events where she was being honored, or any award shows unless he was nominated," a friend of Swift's told People.
Harris is a very successful DJ, but Swift's career obviously eclipses his. While Swift regularly sells out massive stadiums, Harris usually sticks to Vegas gigs and clubs. The "This Is What You Came For" hitmaker jokingly made light of his career differences with Swift in a 2015 tweet referencing her battle with Apple Music:
Yet breaking up because he's intimidated by a powerful woman? That's disappointing for a lot of reasons -- the least of which being that everyone should appreciate strong women in their lives. (Although we admittedly wanted to see more drama in this because we're terrible.)
Though their relationship fizzled out, it seems like the two have remained pretty mature.
After the Scottish DJ tweeted a statement about the breakup on Thursday, the "1989" hitmaker dutifully retweeted the note to show solidarity:
Tweeting after a breakup appears to be Harris' signature move. After splitting with singer Rita Ora, he wrote: "To address speculation - myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best."
We doubt the two will spill details about their split anytime soon, but we're looking forward to listening to breakup music from both parties.
