Canadian Kids Welcome Syrian Refugees With Friendship, Big Smiles In Video

"I'm gonna be your friend!"

These Canadian children welcomed Syrian refugees to their country with open arms.

Nonprofit World Vision Canada, a Christian development and relief organization, recently released a video featuring Canadian kids sending encouraging words to Syrians who have moved to their country. The kids' messages, while simple, reveal an enormous amount of compassion for their new neighbors.

In the clip, children welcome the newcomers in various languages, with big smiles on their faces. They also share comforting words, assuring people that they're not alone.

"Can't imagine what you've been through," one boy says. "I really hope you like it in Canada."

Another girl explains what Canada has to offer.

"It's a very nice place here. There's no war and you can go to school safely," she says. "And welcome!"

Many of them also went a step further and offered their friendship.

"I'm gonna be your friend!" one little girl says. "I love you."

The children join various Canadian residents who have made it clear the country is happy to host refugees. Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has pledged to resettle 25,000 Syrians, greeted people at Pearson International Airport.

"This is a wonderful night, where we get to show not just a planeload of new Canadians what Canada is all about, we get to show the world how to open our hearts and welcome in people who are fleeing extraordinarily difficult situations," he said.
